BATTLEFIELD VETERAN 25000+HRS

The Names Hellspawn. I am 46 retired ESports player and a Battlefield veteran since BF1942 / DC Mod with over 25,000+ hours throughout the franchise.

And I am here to give you my take on the BF6 Beta, what I liked, disliked and discuss the other future features such as Portal / Battle Royal.

Map design - 7/10 while I felt cinematically and combat was awesome and punchy. It reminded to much of Call of Duty, nothing wrong with that, I have dabbled in some CoD myself. Now I understand each Battlefield game needs that CoD style map, narrow chock points, lanes and fast pace infantry combat.

Such as Metro in BF3, Operation Locker in BF4 and Redacted in BF2042. However knowing that 5 of the 9 maps on release are small Infantry maps, is disappointing to me. Cairo is a decent map, but the other two are terribly designed and claustrophobic.

Liberation peak is a medium sized map at best, and its OK but feels very linear. I do have hopes for the other large maps on launch, at least I know Fire Storm will be good.

Ground Vehicles - 8/10 Feel free solid, but they need to fix the turning rate in FPS view, 3rd person the turret spins almost twice as fast.

Air Vehicles - 6/10 This is the worst part of the game, The choppers fly like bath Tubs. The jets feel sluggish. The only good thing about the jets is they added dummy drop bombs which are so fun. Haven't been able to just drop bombs since BF3.

Infantry - 9/10 feels very polished, I like that the Ammo and Meds are in a single box now. Listen I don't wanna hear the Role Players complain about class identity. From BF3, BC2, BF4, and 2042 the lack of people actually doing their jobs like Med packs, reviving, and ammo was frustrating. The only time you were guaranteed to see Ammo Boxes and Med packs on the battlefield for others and not just hogging it for themselves, was on infantry maps like metro where 25 people are dog piled on top of each other spamming grenades at some stupid choke point.

The gun play feels quick and snappy, Sniper glint needs a nerf but apparently they are addressing that.

Portal - HUGE potential, not since BF1942 / BF2 has the community had access to some mod tools. Now bare in mind Portal is not a full fledge mod tool, even though I am 100% certain modders could make a better version of a Star Wars game using the BF6 engine then EA could "Looking at you Galactic Conquest mod" I think portal will be an important tool to keeping the community engaged and offer options to avoid burnout from the core game.

Battle Royal - MASSIVE POTENTIAL. Yeah yeah I am gonna get the usual replies of "Not every game needs a BR blah blah blah" Listen Battle Field is in my blood, 25,000+ hrs but PUBG is an incredible game which I have 5600Hrs played. Battle Royals just hit different, they offer a dopamine rush you just can't get from winning a round of Conquest.

If they do the BR correctly, and allow users to make their own BR using Portal. Battlefield will be a slam dunk for the next 5 years easily. And all that money from the BR which to be honest if its a good BR it will bring in significantly more money then the core game over time. Meaning more money for development and also keeping players within the Battlefield eco system. Get a little tired of the BF6 BR, load up the core game and play some Conquest or Rush and vice versa.

The honest truth, If the Battle Royal fails. Battlefield 6 will die off within 2-3 months. And you will be left with just the die hard BF fans who will remain playing for years, in half empty servers. That's the REALITY of any FPS game that doesn't offer a BR experience.

I have hopes EA will get it right this time, but realistically its a crap shoot. "Crosses Fingers"

  • Hey, Hellspawn. Glad you're voicing your opinions, especially with so many hours in the franchise under your belt.

I agree with most of your points, namely map design, infantry/class experience, and vehicles.

I am hoping the other maps to be released will have a larger scale. I'm really looking forward to Operation Firestorm with this build.

I also agree that aircraft in the beta didn't feel great. It probably has a lot to do with vehicle sensitivity, but both helicopter and jet felt clunky or slow to control considering how fast they go. I feel this way especially about the heli. I don't think I was able to give myself enough time to get used to them since Liberation Peak was also the only map, and we only got one of each aircraft per team. Regardless, I feel like they do need more work to make it feel more fluid and intuitive to control the vehicles with KBM. I'm sure controller makes it easier, but I enjoyed using KBM in the past. I'm also hoping there's more mastery and loadout customization for all the vehicles.

Gunplay does feel great, especially in combination with the movement system. It doesn't feel too over the top, but you can still have fun with the movement once you get the hang of it. I had a lot of fun with it with the infantry focus during this beta. Some balancing issues are apparent with some weapons and gadgets, but the core is solid and really enjoyable. I do wish they buff suppression though. It's a really neat game mechanic for making the LMGs feel purposeful and giving people options against snipers.

Overall though, I had a ton of fun with the Open Beta. I LOVED playing BF4, and I caught a glimpse of that feeling during these past two weeks. I really hope the we get more players into the franchise and they get to enjoy it as much as we have.
