Beta Review Part Deux

My Thoughts on the Battlefield 6 Beta (August 14-17)

I wanted to provide a follow-up review after playing the second beta weekend from August 14th to the 17th. This time around, I'm feeling a lot of excitement and hope for the final game, as it's clear the developers are listening and the core experience is incredibly strong.

My Positive Experience and What Makes Me Excited

First and foremost, the core of Battlefield 6 is solid. The game runs incredibly well and looks absolutely beautiful on my system. I experienced zero crashes and smooth performance, which is a fantastic foundation for a beta.

The massive reduction in cheating was a huge relief and a great step in the right direction. With very few hackers encountered, matches felt much more fair, rewarding, and intense. The core gunplay, where a fight is won by skill and not cheats, is a breath of fresh air and a testament to the fun that is possible in this game.

I'm also very impressed with the map design of Siege of Cairo and Iberian Offensive. These maps feel strong and balanced, offering a great mix of combat situations for both attackers and defenders. When these maps are played as intended, the entire experience is rewarding and keeps me coming back for more.

Key Areas for an Even Better Game

While the beta is an overwhelmingly positive experience, there are a few key areas that, if addressed, would make Battlefield 6 an absolute must-buy for me.

  • Rooftop Exploits: A critical issue that needs a top-priority patch is the exploit allowing players to get onto rooftops. This is a game-breaking problem that creates uncontestable positions and can ruin the flow of a match.
  • ADS/Bullet Spread Bug: I encountered a bug where the bullets would intermittently fire to the left of where my sights were pointed. This made gunfights frustrating and inconsistent. To be more specific, I'd have to aim an inch to the right on screen for my bullets to connect. Some YouTube videos suggest that performing a slide will cancel the bug, but this inconsistency needs to be fixed to ensure fair and predictable combat.
  • Rush Mode Balancing: The Liberation Peak map needs some attention, specifically for the Rush game mode. It currently feels heavily imbalanced, making it extremely difficult for attackers to secure the final objective. I played 22 matches on this map, and I have never seen a team get the final objective. Tweaks to this map would make the mode much more enjoyable.
  • Empire State Map Rework: This was, for me, the weakest map of the beta and in my opinion, it needs a complete rework. It doesn't feel like a Battlefield map at all—it feels chaotic, lacks any real ebb and flow, and simply doesn't fit with the stronger designs of Siege of Cairo, Iberian Offensive, and Liberation Peak, I have found myself towards then end of the beta, just quitting the game and re-entering another game.

My Conclusion

This second beta period has left me genuinely excited for the future of Battlefield 6. The massive improvement on the cheating front proves that the developers are on the right track. If they can address the remaining technical bugs and balance issues, particularly with the rooftop exploits and the Liberation Peak map, I believe this game has the potential to be truly great. The core of the game is so much fun, and I'm very hopeful these final tweaks will be made before launch.
