BF6 Beta Feedback on Sniping, Maps, Vehicles, Weapons, Balancing, & More
Played 10 hours so far and "was" a very big BF fan from 1942, to Vietnam, to BC2, BF3 and BF4 (own BF1 and BF5, but dislike very much). At the surface, it seems [DICE] you're on the right track again to win back the BF community that has longed for this gameplay for so long (I'd like to give you money again, but you have to earn it), so here's a list of issues and feedback from long-time BF squad-mates:
Sniping (in general)
• Please limit sniping... this is NOT Sniperfield or Sniper Simulator, but after a few matches played, all you see is glint (again). This is what turned my squad and many others off BF in the first place. Please consider limiting # of snipers to something like 5 MAX per team (first come, first served), and make it considerably more difficult to actually get hits on players (sniping is hard in real life). Saw many chat posts during the game saying the same thing. My last match last night, there were 17 snipers on the other team (more than 50%)!
Maps
• Most in the beta seem smaller than some BF3 and BF4 maps. We know you have the tech to make these maps larger and pull pieces from the very great classic maps from all BF games (we've seen it)
• The HQ's need more defenses and need to be larger, and matter more. There should be runways and helipads at every HQ containing those vehicles.
• Hoping for naval/water maps because some of those from BF4 were absolutely great
• Night versions of some/all maps would be good, but please, again, limit the darn infrared sights. Flashlights and lasers would be great, and I know IR's are real, but it doesn't play well. It is basically the same as allowing everyone to be a sniper with smaller weapons.
• Destruction feels good, but if you had more in the pipeline, I'd certainly welcome it!
Vehicles
• Where are the ATV's and dirt bikes?? There aren't enough vehicles to simply move from HQ to other capture points thus far, and these could also help avoid the constant kill by sniper.
• Transport helicopters? Blackhawks, Ospreys, Chinooks... please add!
• Tanks take enormous amount of rockets to kill with no one repairing them (increase dmg of rockets and/or reduce health of tanks)
Weapons
• I play hardcore mode 99.9% of the time, but having played a lot of normal mode as well, some of these current weapons need major rebalancing.
• Shotguns at 30M+ range seem to still do too much damage without using slugs. Up close, they should be devastating, but could use some tweaking.
• Many assault and carbine rifles I've used thus far take nearly the full mag to kill someone.
• In general, to be more realistic and less like CoD (which BF should absolutely strive to do at this point because we don't need another copycat), one should be able to kill 2-3 people with one mag and well placed shots (i.e. - torso and head mostly), especially when having the jump on others. It sucks very badly to get the jump on someone where I'm crouching or in prone and they are running by me and away in a straight line, I light them up, and they have time to turn completely around and kill me. This is absurd.
• Rockets/RPG's need a damage BUFF badly
• Limit amount of snipers allowed on the field at once (I'm even good with only allowing them to be picked up from specific areas and have long cooldowns). One per squad is still too many because people can make as many squads as they want, thus exploiting it.
Additional Balancing
• Please add some sort of weight/stamina feature. Most real soldiers can sprint for a very long time, however, unlimited jumping, sliding, and diving is not possible. No one can do that with weapons and gear. If you are going to allow it, then at least add cooldowns to those mechanics. BF3 and 4 had neither of these features and we were just fine. Being able to slide into cover once in a while is great, but not to be used as a bullet dodging feature. That is arcade-like, and you are making more of a mil-sim.
• Consider slowing the movement just a tick. I feel that we're moving just like CoD and that is too fast. (by doing this, some of the weapon buffs/debuffs may not be necessary)
Additional Content/Features/Server Browser
• Please add compass with all degrees so teams can utilize directional callouts, especially when not playing with minimap enabled
• Please consider more "buddy-system" mechanics! My squad and I have discussed this for over a decade. The drag and revive is great. Add buddy climb features where one can setup and allow the other to climb to a higher ledge or roof even, but requires help and animations and TIME.
• Please make/keep weapons and attachments as unlockables along the way just like BC2, BF3, BF4. We want it to take a while and have a feeling of progression but also be rewarding.
• DO NOT add super soldiers into this game. It WILL ruin it just like 2042.
• Please add standard DICE Hardcore servers for most game modes where there is all the good stuff from BF3 &4 (i.e. - no minimap, more weapon dmg, the feeling of consequences to die, lose ammo on reload, no health regen, etc. (we know you have Portal, but not everyone wants it all that custom))
• Add unlockable soldier skins and tons of clothing and weapon camos (similar to BF3 and 4 as well), if it isn't already planned to be in the game at launch.
• Add back the server browser from BF3. It worked better than BF4, but I'm sure you can develop a better one that you promote and millions of people will prefer over quick match.
• Consider not making more BF games, but continuing to support ONE very large BF game (this one) much like Rainbow Six Siege has done for 10 years now. We don't need special operators, but I see a world where every BF map ever made is remade for 2025 and beyond, and available in standard and Hardcore servers in random rotations, and we can filter to play what we want. Add maps, content, weapons, etc.
