My criticism is minor, feedback fair but I haven’t yet regained trust…
BF6, or the build of it we got to play, is yes, unfinished, needs a polish and a few kinks working out. However, overall, the smaller maps we tried felt very much like battlefield of old, faster paced, more chaos. Squad play and capturing points felt like absolute cinema with last minute revives, holding the line then suddenly being swarmed by the enemy team, bullsh*t deaths and calls of “no way, how’ve they done that” or “nah I was shooting first”. Overall very reminiscent of smaller, more infantry focused maps of BF3 and 4.
In terms of feedback, obviously the visual glitches where it all goes fuzzy on PC needs a fix, my opinions of changes we need to see are:
- Splash damage on rpg’s needs a buff, yes it’s anti vehicle not anti infantry, but the human body does not care when ~1kg+ of explosive goes off 4 feet from your face, it will hurt infantry even if it’s not meant for them.
- Sniper glint (has been confirmed to be toned down in the final build but as we haven’t seen that yet) needs a tweak. Brightness Intensity should stay the same just loose the huge diffraction spikes, a simple small horizontal spike like bf3 & 4 would suffice.
- C4/Demo Charge, again, splash damage increase against infantry, I chucked 4 over a wall on top of 3 enemies, not one kill… again it is an explosive, it may be for demo/anti vehicle purposes, but it will still hurt, having such low splash damage is frustrating and not immersive.
- Parachute needs a little tweak, there were times especially from the F flag on Liberation Peak where I felt like I jumped from sufficient height yet couldn’t pull my chute.
- Open vs Closed Weapons. I agree both have place in BF6, however for conquest, rush and breakthrough (imo the “core” game modes) the standard listing of “Conquest”, “Breakthrough”, “Rush” or “All out Warfare” should be traditional battlefield closed weapons classes, not the way round it was in the game.
- The point above leads me onto this one nicely, follow through with your previous comment about moving the deploy beacon to assault. I actually think this would be a huge improvement to gameplay for BF6, especially if the above point is followed too. It would prompt the assault class to be in the fight, pulling off flanks and finding spots for the team to respawn, not used and abused by a recon/scout to sit in an annoying spot, not contributing to the team play and just repeatedly returning to a hard to reach spot. (Sure some players will do the same with what’s available on assault but it would be far less of a problem).
- Spawning, we need the BF’s of past system with the squad listed on the deploy screen, you can choose a squad member to deploy on directly from the list, rather than fight the UI like the current implementation.
- Netcode needs some work, 60hz tick rate feels great with low latency but there’s definitely some wonky goings on between client side/server side syncing as some deaths/kills definitely fell outside of the intended TTK.
- Head hitbox, needs a minor tweak, seems like the mouth to neck don’t count as head but torso…
- Ping, auto ping seems to be mistakenly on all classes, not as powerful as scout/recon but definitely there. All classes bar recon should only ping enemies and give the classic red coloured diamond when the ping button (Q/LB/L1) is pressed while looking at the enemy precisely (within a reasonable tolerance). Scout should auto ping on damage and after a certain aim time, currently the system isn’t a good mechanic to have in the game imo. Scout seems to auto tag anyone within the crosshairs as long as they are actively looked at, then attaches a more persistent tag temporarily after a set time. They can also mark multiple enemies while down with the same system. Ruins the flow of gameplay a bit and actually hands advantage to the team on the back foot rather than on the offensive. To explain what I mean, if you pull off a flank to a flag without being spotted (very hard in the current build), as soon as you engage and you kill an enemy, getting the drop on the team/squad, you then no longer hold the advantage as you should, that downed player can give comms to squad, sure, but they entire team know your exact location as the downed player will have live pinged you (anyone with you if scout), so long as they play their life for revive, they can continue to give live info on the attacking teams position. Kills the desire to flank and ambush because you are at a complete disadvantage with zero live enemy pings while they know exactly where you are due to a dead player or two…
- probably won’t happen but I think squads back to 5 person would be another good change too.
All the above said, I think those are fair comments/requests and fixes that the game should see, there is a bigger burning issue for BF6 than bugs, imbalances and other required changes. That is… social media and DICE/EA themselves, not necessarily the devs but the people with the power and only the profits in mind. I absolutely implore DICE/EA to not listen to the streamers and social influencers but instead these forums, and totally unknown people without a loud voice who love their franchise of battlefield and ultimately wouldn’t have them create a game that people wouldn’t like, wouldn’t buy or wouldn’t play. We, the community care about battlefield, we know how good it can be! Streamers and their influence do bring great advertising and attention to games but in reality they have single-handedly (as a community, not all individuals of course) ruined every decent game we have had in recent years. MW2019 and WZ were incredible for the COD franchise, slowly it was ruined, they eventually brought back the community loved fan favourite of verdansk, only to give in to the streamers one more and ruin it once more after 3 weeks. Escape from Tarkov, Call of Duty, any big game with large audiences all come with this problem, those who shout loudest are heard. But we don’t need mega competitive, super meta, sweat fests. We need fun games with community in mind. So in response to the streamer complaints:
- shotguns are fine, nice that they work as they should for once in a video game.
- roof spots and parkour should stay, it’s part of battlefield, adapt your playstyle and fight the angles, change weapon, whatever it may be, that’s the bf way.
- Maps are fine as is, we’ve seen ~50% of the maps and so far, much like BF3 and BF4 they are on par with the playstyle of the smaller maps from those games.
- recoil on controller being less than it is on mouse, fine, keep it, just don’t turn up aim assist, if anything a slight RAA nerf (ever so minor).
- anything BR related, cool, we know you’re doing a new BR mode but 70-80% of the player base aren’t here for that, if you start dropping stupid cosmetics, keep them in BR. Multiplayer should keep its more realism focused look, yeah come fun paint for weapons and vehicles is fine, but if we start seeing cringy and out of place player skins, Bf6 will be the last dime EA get from my wallet, it’s crass and anyone who actually cares about the game isn’t in favour of it. look at COD, sure they’re selling skins to people who buy them to annoy others or just simply like them and don’t really care for the game, but if you actually look at the community, everyone HATES them, nothing good is said about them. Keep that rubbish out of BF, 2042 strayed a little from the path but we shall forgive you if you don’t repeat your mistakes.
Lastly, in light of recent info… how can I say this clearly? WE. DONT. WANT. A. YEARLY. BATTLEFIELD. GAME. don’t f*ck this up now, please, you’re so close!! I obviously cannot speak for all of the community but I’m sure I speak for a large portion of them when I say we want a great quality game every ~5(+) years with ongoing support, paid DLC with maps, weapons, vehicles etc and transactions in game for battlebpacks, rented persistent community servers and yes, we know it’s coming but SENSIBLE and fitting cosmetic items. I almost forgot it but yes we know there will a battle pass of sorts with the premium version but please make premium more like the premium it used to be, not the battle passes of present.
feedback/rant over, DICE, please listen to the actual community, the actual players on the feedback not the minority who’s job it is to play the game all day everyday, we don’t care if streamers get bored/don’t have enough “competition” that’s what ranked play and esports are for, Battlefiled has always been a game for everyone and even casual gamers could have fun, please don’t loose sight of that.
