Scope Glint

As an avid long range shooter, I often play the recon class. The scope glint feels really overpowered to me, its like a flashlight at night. I understand its a balancing thing, but that glint is a pretty non-existent issue in real life. There are devices that go over the objective lens that cut any possible glare to pretty much nothing. The second I look down the scope in game, the entire map knows where I am and three other snipers and a tank start shooting at me. The glint needs to be reduced a lot as well as when it is visible. Maybe they could remove the glint until the rifle is supported or the player holds their breath, so its visible before a shot is taken, but not the whole time. This may make another balance issue, but that can be combated by increasing unsupported weapon sway, precision rifles are HEAVY, my 15 lbs rifle is considered light, so reducing the amount of time you can hold the rifle steady could balance the lack of glint.

    It should take into account:

Ambient lighting:  If i'm in a  dark house, where is the light coming from that is reflecting?

Angle of view for when it is visible:  The person who can see it should be in your Cone of View,  if not, it should not be visible.

Brightness:  It should not look like 90k Lumen Spot light looking at you.

I'm not even playing "recon" too much this beta, it's annoying to see what looks like street lights off in the distance.  You already have a kill cam that highlights where the person is that shot you, if you can't kill them after that, they deserve to sit there and camp until you do.  Let them get their 3 kills  and no assists.

Scope Glint/Glare isnt even a thing in real life so why add it? so that scrubs can know where you are hiding as a sniper? ISNT that a part of the gameplay that you are hiding in the shadows? JUST like in real life? imagine that glare in a real battlefield you see all those snipers pop up with a light as bright as the sun on the battlefield?

it should be removed, it wont add anything to the gameplay other than scrubs can find you easily. or tanks that are only targeting snipers because of the massive light rays.

Yes, it was added because of people coming on the forums complaining they couldn't find the "camper" or "bush wookie" that killed them.  They added the glint so that they could see the sniper who is hidden, and didn't have to use logic to determine where the shots were coming from.

Another thing they could consider is the glint would only show up if you were ADS for more than a determined amount of time.

I don't play recon very often I've always been an engineer main and I fully agree, scope glint should be removed I never was really bothered by being picked off by snipers I honestly prefer it over being blinded by flashlights across the map. The odd time I pick up a sniper rifle to give it a shot I can't actually get any kills because there are no binoculars to scout with so as soon as I try to look around I'm being pelted with bullets from everyone on the map

There are historical accounts of seeing scope glint, but thats scopes from the 40s. in Iraq and Afghanistan they would use tape and Anti-Reflection devices/ killflashes, but its rare to see them nowadays with modern optics

Yes, there are scope ARDs and tape on scopes to reduce glint because it is a real thing in real life. That said, its not a 1million lumen flashlight on the end of your rifle that shows up regardless of the direction or even presence of sunlight. Have an ARD as an attachment that reduces the clarity of your scope if you really want to keep glint but make it directional/brightness based on direction and intensity of light source.

Glint should be removed, people have good enough monitors and tvs and are playing 1080p as a minimum, 1440p more likely and a lot of 4k. You can see the sniper if you look for them, unlike when the glint was added to the game in the past.

ARDs dont even affect the clarity to a noticeable amount, mainly just make the objective gather less light, its such a cheap way to find snipers without working for it

  • In previous games, I'm talking BF2/4 team mates would communicate and let each other know where the camping sniper was, along with the kill cam. It would the be a personal/squad mission to find said sniper and kill them. But this was also when sniping was a lot harder - proper scope sway etc. I think scope glint does have a place because of the causal gamers and the fact sniping is easier now, but It needs to be toned down, only active when ADS and ideally only after a time - a second or two.
