Vehicles Repair Overhaul Needed

Battlefield has had this issue for decades at this point where a tank can sit back and lob shots on objectives from a tight angle and then when you start to get rockets on it, it will just back up repair go right back to being hell on earth for your team. I get it, you're supposed to coordinate and use strategy and teamwork to take out enemy vehicles but the odds of finding a squad that will actually do any of that friendly cooperation **bleep** is so low, its not realistic to balance a gameplay mechanic around that. I just had a game tonight where I hit a tank 4 times in one life with an RPG, respawned, hit it two more times all in the span of 2 minutes at most, and all while a friendly tank was trying to get shots on it too. I couldn't event get it to catch fire cause of the dudes repairing it on the other side, which is just not fun to deal with. The only people in this community that could ever find that back and forth fun is the dude in the tank on the 16 kill streak, and lets be real, that dude has also been hording the tank from the rest of the team since the start.

I would propose that vehicles simply have damage thresholds they cannot repair past. If you get hit below 50% HP, sorry but thats now the new max health that vehicle has going forward. This would make it so people can still play that cat and mouse tank/jet game or whatever, but its less likely to go on forever. I'd take it as far as to also say there should be a reset timer based on how long you were alive in vehicles in general so you can't hog a tank or chopper all day too. I think at the very least some kind of damage/health thresholds for vehicles would be a reasonable and fair improvement for the game. I said 50% health before, you could do other values too, 60%, 60% and then another at 30%, 40%, whatever. I am sure a reasonable drop off point could be found with some testing.

The beta has been fun, looking forward to seeing more.

    I'd suggest a timer from taking damage to being able to repair a vehicle. If you get hit noone can repair it for 5-10s. This would make RPGs way more viable and helpful and tanks will have to think it through before rushing in and tanking all damage due to the 4 engineers in the back.

    Oh yeah, the one on the Gibraltar map is absolutely ridiculous. It is positioned right on the long path from spot A to E and makes tanks a huge pain in the **bleep** to deal with when you are defending one of those spots.

    I somewhat agree with the repairs being a bit silly but you have to take into consideration that vehicles are being repaired unusually quick at the moment. If you pay attention to it people are almost fighting each other over the repair points right now because of the "repair vehicles" reward during the beta test. It usually isn't that bad. At least from what my experience in the previous Battlefield games is.

    I don't remember there being repair stations on the maps especially next to objectives as I put in my comment i think those need move far away from obj or removed completely re supply ammo they should have to return to base or make a engineer gadget for doing that for the vehicles 

  • I’m not really sure what can be done about this, it’s broadly an issue with the series over this specific game. A big aggravating factor is people are trying to grind out the 7000 repair score beta challenge so it’s artificially making this a bigger issue than it normally is.

    Historically it’d just be a driver and gunner working as a team to do this especially far from base, but now everyone’s got a bit of incentive to find the nearest vehicle in need of repair and run a longer distance for repairs than they’d normally do. It’ll flatten out I think.

    Problem is only one person is ever actually attacking the tank most of the time 

  • One person in combat cannot keep a an armoured vehicle alive. Obviously in a 1v1 and only one tank has a repair monkey, but other than that if multiple people are hitting a tank it's not hard to take down.

    I have found that this is an issue aswell and especially in breakthrough with the repair stations being so close to the capture points and in areas with sightlines on Infantry paths so I'd propose that A: make repair stations destructable permanently B: up the damage of rpg and the prox mine C: max repair be 70% of initial health of tank D: on breakthrough game mode max 1 tank per side and only able to respon tank once a push 

    It took me 14 rockets and 2 mines to destroy one tank by my self no one helping also and the tank was completely holding down everything 

    But I do have another discussion on the breakthrough game mode in a thread so if you can go take a second to read it and let me know what you think 

  • Yeah vehicles I get are supposed to have pretty high damage limits because they are so up armored. So they should be able to last out there for a decent while.

    Simultaneously it does feel pretty sisyphean to be able to kill them because 1 person can very much keep a tank online but it takes a lot of people bothering to make a very concerted effort to destroy it.

    I don't know where the balance is, maybe the higher leveled classes as the game releases will have launchers or anti-tank weapons that wear them down quicker but it does definitely feel like it is taking a balance pass on.
