A complaint about ALL Battlefield games

While waiting for Battlefield 6 to become available, I started playing V and 2042 and have noticed (really stood out to me) is that a new player has such a huge disadvantage compared to other players that it is extremely frustrating and, quite honestly, unfair.  While there should be a learning curve; ie, learning maps, weapons, keybindings, etc., it is unfair to make it so that a player starting the series is at a huge disadvantage when it comes to weaponry that is available to them when starting out.

i get it, you want to reward the veteran by giving them perks and attachments to strive for. However, to blatantly penalize a newcomer is atrocious. There should be a starting weapon for each class that is better than what you currently get. For example, why does almost every gun have only iron sights when you’re just starting with the game?  Wouldn’t it be more fair to offer a scope that the player could then decide whether to put on or not?

Instead, you give us the worst setup possible as if it’s some type of punishment for waiting so long to buy your game.

I’ve noticed this before but never thought much of it until starting both V and 2042.  With 6, please give beginners a better starting weapon option than you already do. Give them some options so they can at least try to make a weapon that could at least compete against others.

I don’t think that is too much to ask.

  • Did you not play in the BF6 open beta? The starter weapons were all fine and had scopes of various kinds that were not ironsights.

Worst-case-scenario would be to go in a solo/portal match versus bots and unlock many/all of the attachments for the weapons in a round or two.

  • Tbh I've never had much issue with default guns. I often ran with defaults in BF3 and BF4. Hell, my favourite gun in BF3 was the AKS-74u, which is the default one for the Russian engineer. The default AK-12 in BF4 was also great.

I do agree, though, that there's a learning curve for beginners. In my experience, it mostly comes down to knowing how the enemy soldiers look, where they may come from, the map layouts, where the best spots are, where enemies usually hide when taking points, stuff like that. I struggled with all that in BF6 Beta at first, but then naturally learned it as I played more.

Imo real problems start when you're getting into an older Battlefield that's now mostly played by very skilled players. Just getting flags can be tough because you're often getting headshotted by some pro dude in a jet, and learning vehicles can become very frustrating very quickly. That's why I prefer playing with bots if it's an option in such cases: it's more forgiving and more enjoyable, and it gives you a safe space to learn the basics at your own pace.
