Sierra_SE I strongly disagree. Artillery is not just another mortar it brings strategic depth, map wide dynamics, and high stakes decision making that mortars alone cannot replicate.
Mandatory targeting systems can be designed to be self-sufficient: for example, artillery could have built in targeting modules, limited automated reconnaissance, or temporary area spotting, so a player does not have to fully rely on teammates. This maintains the risk-reward balance without making the system useless.
Regarding ammo and range: yes, the main base has supply points, but long reloads, cooldowns, and limited firing windows can prevent camping abuse. Range restrictions don’t mean “short”; they just ensure players can’t snipe the entire map with zero exposure. Properly balanced, artillery encourages movement, positioning, and tactical coordination, making battles more dynamic instead of predictable.
Finally, removing artillery entirely just because it requires careful balancing would strip Battlefield 6 of one of its most iconic and unique strategic layers. Mortars are not a substitute they serve a different role and cannot replicate the psychological and tactical impact of true artillery.

Hello again,
Please elaborate on what you mean by "limited automated reconnaissance", "temporary area spotting", and "limited firing windows".
Giving the artillery system a long reload, cooldowns, etc just seems to be a recipe for having players be a burden more than an asset. Furthermore, on the point about artillery encouraging movement; no, it doesn't. It promotes the need for cover, which even then seems a bit silly since the artillery can just destroy the cover. Positioning, yes, people will put themselves into artillery dead zones, but then they're just going to stay there to avoid that artillery, again the exact opposite of encouraging movement.
It wouldn't strip Battlefield 6 of anything since Battlefield 6 doesn't have any artillery systems other than mortars. It can't be iconic or unique if it doesn't exist. I agree that mortars aren't a substitute, nor should they be because artillery as proposed shouldn't exist in this game.
