Aim only with Right Stick?

Can someone suggest how I can change my Xbox settings so that my Right stick is less likely to trigger an action and just allow me to aim my weapon?

I wish they let console players decide whether or not to have their aiming stick trigger other actions. PC players don’t have to worry about this when aiming. So console players should have the same option.

Thanks in advance.

  • Before we help we need to know what action the right toggle is triggering when being used instead of aiming in order to understand what the issue is so we can identify what you may need to change in the settings

They may be like me, who occasionally I'll have a round when the slightest pressure on R3 brings out melee when you least want it.

I have my controller Right stick set to Prone, instead of Melee. I did this because, if anything, I am more likely to survive if I trigger Prone than Melee. In the past, when it was set to Melee, and I put slightly too much pressure on the stick -  which will happen when you're trying to react quickly - I would suddenly start swinging my gun around. Which only made me more vulnerable to getting killed. Whereas with Prone, I will drop down and likely dodge shots. BUT, the problem is clear.

All I want to do is aim my weapon with my Right stick. I should not be forced to add an action to the stick. PC players don't have to worry about it, because they're not forced to trigger anything when aiming. So, why do the devs force console players to put an action on the stick they're aiming their gun with? It makes no sense to FORCE this onto the player. Yet, they do.

We should have a setting that allows us to check a box for the Right stick (or whichever stick you use to aim) that says "AIM ONLY". Why the devs for COD or BF, haven't figured this out yet is mind boggling. We are humans. Not programmable machines. We cannot apply a specific amount of pressure when playing or responding quickly. And changing "deadzone" or any other setting doesn't help. Just let us aim our weapons. It's that simple.

You can go into your controller settings and custom map any of the functions.  If you want to remove anything but aiming from the right stick you just need to unbind the other actions tied to it, which by default is melee.  Like others mentioned, I mapped my push down of the right stick to go into a crouch so I dont have to move my hand off the stick to do combat moves.  Melee action is generally much less frequent than all the shooting and stances, so I mapped that to B and to the right bumper.  If you are on a computer using a controller you can also map keyboard buttons to your controller buttons for some more diversity in your control settings.
