Are the BF6 servers safe?

I mean are they safe to connect to.  I tried playing tonight, and get a message that I cannot connect to the EA servers.  It a was a red message in the lower right side of the screen, and it went away quick so I didn't really get a chance to read it as I was more focused on leaving spawn.  I have never once seen a message like this while in game, only when trying to start BF6 and the servers are down.

Then the game had 4 obvious cheaters that were over level 600 and had at least 10 kills within the first minute.

So of course I leave that game, but my game soft locks instead of returning to the main menu, and when I attempted to restart the game, anticheat tells me there's an issue and to restart my computer.  This has never happened before either.

After a restart, anticheat re-installs, which is odd but happened once or twice before.  But when the game starts, it just hangs and never fully launches.  Just a black screen and noise.

So I'm really rather curious if EA is in control of their own game servers.  Personally I'm sketched out.  I'm not a computer expert by any stretch of the word, but I do wonder that if someone has hacked the EA servers, and I'm getting connected to compromised servers, who's to say what is being sent to my computer in return?

I hope I'm just being paranoid.

  • So, based on my own experience:

    • Many people (if not all) have been having that red warning in the bottom right. I'm having it myself basically every match for the past few days, and I've seen people commenting about it in the chat.
    • The lock when trying to leave a match is alas very common, it's a bug that's been reported some months ago now. It's not systematic, but it also happens to me fairly often.
    • However, while I've sometimes had issues restarting the game and basically had to reboot my computer, I've never experienced the follow-up you describe, I don't think I ever had to reinstall Javelin specifically (I have had to reinstall the game from scratch though).

It's unlikely what happened to you was due to malware, it looks more probably like you've hit a couple of known bugs in succession and your installation was messed up by it (I know, that's very approximate terminology right here). Note that simply the EA servers being taken over would not necessarily mean your own computer is vulnerable.
