it feels like there are just not enough people playing redsec so they just throw everyone into one game to somehow fill 100 players

This is probably the lamest reason… Yes, there are fewer players, but not to the point where matchmaking should become completely random.
The majority of the player base is low rank. So if there are fewer high rank players online, matchmaking for higher-rank players might take a little longer that’s fine. Just take the extra time and actually look for players around the same rank instead of throwing low level players into the same lobbies.
I officially played 30 levels, and I’m quitting this game for good. And Im sure many more players have done the same.
No doubt, this matchmaking sucks.
Ultimately, this system is actually helping create the low player numbers problem. People play for a few hours, get frustrated by unfair matchmaking, and then leave the game.
So blaming the low player count for bad matchmaking doesn’t really make sense when the matchmaking itself is one of the reasons players are leaving in the first place.
The devs need to understand that keeping players is more important than simply filling a lobby as fast as possible.

the issue is that fixing the matchmaking and another problems the game have cost money and resources but they already sold the game and people bought the game and they are most likely working on the next game right now
they just keep a minimum number of developers to pretend they care and that they support the game but there is no point in pulling additional resources and devs to fix an already sold game when they can put them in the next game that they can sell
