DEV-REQUEST : Voice Chat DUCKING for *SELF* Spkr users 5.1 / 7.1
Hello, for BF6 @ DEVS @ BF6 Audio-Devs/Team : Request for additional specific setting.
Voice Ducking for SELF / When I Speak (through MIC)- System wide audio Ducking for VOIP for us people using speakers.
I Can/will explain. -- Discord also has this setting just to mention that first, they have DUCKING when others speak and DUCKING when I / YOU speak. 2 separate settings/Options.
Explanation: Constant headphone-use, Versus: speakers surround sound 5.1 - 7.1.
So, I Don't want to wear headphones all the time, I have a decent speaker set up and I Don't want my speakers playing through my mic THAT MUCH, and LOUD, when I use my mic( And make the squad angry/distracted, possibly having them mute me )... Note: PTT / PUSH TO TALK will be required for those wondering about this setting/idea/setup. Seeing most of the time there is noise gunshots / explosions etc.. So use PTT briefly/short then let go, and continue the fight/playing.
Example:
Voice chat Ducking for self will be ideal for speaker users in surround sound using PTT.
For example, I press my PTT-Key, game volume will be lowered by YOUR set % Amount.
I Have not tested it seeing it's obviously not available yet, But I Would bet 35% to 40% might work well.
The POSSIBLE PROBLEM : Others talking on voice.
Here's where it gets complicated, Using your PTT / Voice, in this setup depending on how you have things set up COULD / MIGHT lower other peoples voices when/while you talk, which could be good and bad, depends. It's setup dependent. There's ways around it, for example You might be wearing one of those Half-Headsets or something like that just for incoming voice chat and mic 'use', I Don't really like those(they cover 1 ear defeating the purpose of surround sound). The other viable option for YOUR mic use is wearing a headset around your neck with the mic arm point up to your mouth, in front. I've done this for a long time and so have some others. I Recommend a uni-directional mic. My mic is ANT-LION MOD MIC - UNI 3.5mm Connection. UNI picks up less surround noise, compared to the omni variants.
( Just to elaborate a bit, In windows you can set your default audio device, like game audio, and you can set your default communication device, which is your VOICE CHAT, (Both under playback)- then you go One tab over, to set your default mic in recording. so essentially you can have game in one and voice chat in something else.. Just to let you know.. )
BF6 is special:
So essentially(if you're not using a half headset or something similar)- you can have other peoples voice come out of your speakers. Now, in BF6 There's multiple voice settings. I Think FLAT is like consistent voice level from all Squad players.
..BF6 also has that directional-like proxy squad chat. I have not tested this, but this could be very interesting with headphones or surround sound speaker setup.
..On Flat-Setting it would likely come out of your center speaker, or front L+R, if you're phantom-ing center at a desk like me, then It Will go to FRONT L+R likely.
..And then directional setting would be cool too, having someone calling help/medic Or just telling you key things ' coordinating ' - you'll hear exactly where they are / which direction etc, some things like that. -- I'm sure someone's gunna' make a video testing all the mic settings; I Hope so.
DEV / Audio Team, please let me know what you think- Please add VOICE DUCKING FOR SELF - setting or at least test it first.
The only product that would work really good / well in this situation doesn't exist. It would be wired bone-conduction headphones with an attached mic. (most of them are wireless/battery-charged and advertised as a fitness/running product, Trust me I've looked around for a long time. ....
..With this non-existent product (wired Bone Conduction headphone/earphone) incoming voice chat would go to the bone conduction earphone things(you'd hear others incoming voice) While still having opening on your ear to hear the surround speakers, AND ALSO have your mic. It's sad this product does not exist......(yet) :P .. there's some cheap'o fake, not true bone conduction ones sold online, Those aren't good. Also Most of this will likely work better on PC, I'm not expert on console use with the settings on there. Maybe.. I suspect most console guys use headphones.
Note, I may edit this, to add any other details over time.
Thanks, Take care.
