Dice, can we please get templates in Portal's Custom tab?

I'm re-posting this here so it can more easily be seen by a moderator and handed off to the dev team, hopefully.

If DICE would please put templates for the Conquest/Rush/Breakthrough modes in Portal's "Custom" tab then we could host a PvE match locally and wouldn't have the Game Server Exceeded issues that are stopping Portal players from playing right now.

Those Dice made templates would make it easy to play a Conquest match, for example, on any existing map with bots and not having to deal with the Game server exceeded errors.

Portal needs ALOT of work and is not ready for prime time as it stands currently...I could see it being my goto way to play after they fix it up and users have alot more time to learn it and make some really good map remakes (or Dice-made remakes), but we're talking at least 6 months to a year or more from now before it really gets fleshed out.

For now, DICE really needs to step in and provide those expected popular game mode templates to use for the custom portal editor, at the very least, so we can play Conquest, Rush & Breakthrough with the bots and host locally without issues .

    I cannot believe they didn’t give us game mode templates for us to build on.

    Forcing people to use godot and literally build an experience from the ground up (including even the scoreboard) is mind boggling.

    They should have done this:

    1. given us verified servers with the ability to adjust basic settings.
    2. given us custom game mode templates that we could adjust more comprehensive settings and add code to - like 2042!
    3. given us godot for people to create more advanced experiences.

    What they’ve done is completely alienated a large portion of people that would have jumped straight into portal in a heart beat.

    I made so many coded servers in 2042. I spent 99% of my time in portal - and spent 3+ years making servers that were always full.

    I was so hyped about portal coming back.

    Then I was disappointed to find that they pretty much made it impossible to get involved.

    Literally half or more settings are missing even from the basic server settings. We can even change the damage values of each weapon type like we could with 2042. I just don’t understand that thinking behind it all.

    I could get some help with godot from the Portal discord guys but I have no experience with godot. And I certainly don’t have the time to get to grips with it.

    Coding is fine. I know how to use the rules editor. But forcing people to use godot is senseless.

     

  • This is similar to what I have been posting about as well. Problem with your idea is that it is great for solo play but for those of us that want to play with our friends, not so much. They need to make the local server into something that your friends can join you in, like BF1942 and on had built in from the beginning.

    I remember playing the Beta of BF1942, on locally run server with my friends in anticipation of the full game release! God, was that so much fun and awesome.

    This would also relieve any server stress from the full online servers. Even trying to launch a portal server, useless as it is, often give you the Overload message, we are working to get you back in. (Another Lie)

    Locally hosted or public aside, I agree. It's crazy that they gave us so little out of the box, make us do the rest manually, and after doing all that manually, punish us by giving the players no weapon xp or unlocks. It makes the whole thing kind of pointless. Like, what about the official game modes they don't even give you. Domination? Deathmatch? Strike-point? (All the others I am not thinking of?). We can't make any of those as verified experiences.

    Spanky668​ Just an idea to try when you have a chance... have you tried creating and joining a Party in-game before locally hosting the server?...also, if that doesnt work then maybe try joining your friend (who's hosting locally) via right clicking his name in Steam friends list?
