DICE, Stop Capping Battlefield 6 XP at 300 Just to Sell Shortcut Packs DICE

DICE, what the hell are you doing?

You are reportedly capping XP gains in Battlefield 6 at just 300 XP within a 60 second window. And this is not limited to Portal mode. The same kind of restrictions appear to affect normal official matchmaking as well, including weapon XP, vehicle XP, class XP, career XP, and even Battle Pass XP.

That is completely unacceptable.

Let’s be honest: this looks like a monetization strategy, not a technical necessity.

You are slowing down normal progression and then selling players a shortcut. Players spend their time playing the game, completing objectives, using different weapons, driving vehicles, and trying to unlock content—only for DICE to throw away their progress once they hit an artificial cap.

Then you expect people to buy Shortcut Packs to make up for the grind you deliberately created?

That is not player friendly. That is a paywall disguised as progression.

The most insulting part is that this feels like a repeat of what happened with Portal.

At the game’s launch, players were shown the promise of a flexible Portal experience where custom modes could still provide meaningful progression. Then the rules were changed, and Portal XP was heavily restricted. Now it appears that even regular official matchmaking is being dragged into the same mess.

You keep taking away the progression players were promised, one restriction at a time.

And spare us the excuse that this is about “protecting the progression system.”

Call of Duty has not needed to put this kind of ridiculous restriction on ordinary gameplay. Wardogs has not needed to do it. Delta Force has not needed to do it. Other shooters let players earn rewards by actually playing the game.

So why does Battlefield 6 need to punish players for playing longer, experimenting with different weapons, or enjoying the modes they paid for?

What are you trying to accomplish here—make the game better, or pressure players into buying shortcuts?

DICE and EA need to explain this clearly:

  • Why is XP being capped at 300?
  • Does the cap apply to Portal and official matchmaking?
  • Does it affect weapon, vehicle, class, career, and Battle Pass XP?
  • Why was this not clearly disclosed before launch?
  • Are Shortcut Packs being designed to solve a problem created by DICE itself?

Because from the outside, this looks incredibly obvious: restrict progression, frustrate players, and sell them a way around the restriction.

If that is not what is happening, then prove it. Remove the cap, publish the exact XP rules, and let players progress normally.

Stop treating the player base like a wallet with a controller attached.

People bought Battlefield 6 to play a Battlefield game—not to be manipulated into paying extra because the developer artificially throttled progression. If players can earn XP through legitimate gameplay, let them earn it. Stop nerfing progression. Stop punishing normal play. Stop turning every part of the game into another sales pitch.

DICE, remove these XP caps and fix the progression system before you destroy what little trust the community still has left.

  • Hi folks, BFComms shared an update on this earlier today:

    [BFComms] Progression & XP Update

Following the launch of Season 5, backend configuration changes resulted in an unintended issue affecting XP earn rates across modes and hardware progression (such as weapons).

These backend changes have now been reverted, and our team is actively monitoring telemetry to ensure earn rates return to intended levels across all experiences.

Thank you for your patience and reports while we continue to track this.

  • Have you noticed heard? Bro they're broke. Saudi arabia put 20Billion Dollar debts on them then EA turns around and took out a 20million+ loan. They dont have the funds for battlefield they've stated they dont have the resources they need every dime they can get so everything is sell sell sell.

DICE, is it really that hard to implement this restriction only in PORTAL?

  • If true, this is a huge deterrent for playing this game.  Dice, reconsider this course of action.
