I have to agree with a lot of what you've said.
These games now a days are just too fast-paced. Bring back the nostalgia of 1942. LARGE SCALE battles taking place over massive terrains. That's what people loved about the original battlefield. People are trying too hard to replicate Call of Duty, when they should be trying to replicate Battlefield 2. Give people an updated Battlefield 2 and you will win them back. Its sometimes just that simple.
Now perhaps the battle royale will provide the game with a slower-pace vibe and you may find that's what people are into. Smaller squad tactics over larger areas but don't be fooled that people are just into it because its a BR.
