Give custom maps full XP — let the community maps breathe (with full lobbies)

Hey DICE and EA,

Fans are already cooking amazing modes (hello first Conquest on the BR map). The problem? Nobody queues them in full lobbies because they don’t give full XP. If custom modes don’t reward players properly, these brilliant community creations will rot in the server browser forever.

Spotlight one vetted community map each week and give it full XP. Playtest the mode, confirm it works, then feature it the next week — simple loop. This lets DICE tap into community map design without huge dev effort (this one already feels polished since they’re built on the BR map).

I know a review step is needed to things like these — Portal already has a publish/vetting system (one of my custom experiences went live after about a day and not instantly), so a quick check is realistic.

Please let properly reviewed custom maps grant full XP — or at least 50–75% as a compromise like the 10% xp for bots.

Weekly spotlights plus real XP will reward creators to cook even more, keep the game fresh and finally get custom lobbies to fill with real players. Win-win.

  • Agreed. Give us the community that we expected. It is so frustrating to see something so exciting and with so much potential ignored and ruined.

Back when they did give full XP, all they needed to do was police the crap they didn't like. If you reported a bot fill server with bots all on one team and bots with no guns, do you know what the result was? An email saying thanks for your feedback but there was no action taken at this time. That's on them. They chose not to police the servers against content they didn't like. Why? Because it was too hard to do it manually? Maybe. But why not make the game or portal do it automatically? Option is toggled for bot fill on only one team, or bots have no weapons? Make the server automatically have no xp. Or, like you said, when a server is approved (which takes hours), make the decision manually at that time.

I agree 100%. I'm tired of EA listening to a bunch of unemployed whiners larping as pro gamers and streamers over bots and progression. How about we let people play the way they want to. Who cares if some goons want to create a XP mill? Literally anyone can do that before the prohibition. I wasn't one of those because it ruined my experience, but I can give no cares if others did. It.doesn't effect me. In three months everyone that plays the game long enough will have at least 90% of the unlocks anyways. Just let people play their way. Let people with jobs that just want to enjoy the whole game without the stress play.  Or reward the content creators in portal by opening things up again.

Love this. And especially the idea about vetting and releasing well-done custom maps as permanent, main page, "official" map from time to time. And bring back full XP with non-nerfed bot backfill.  Let people get creative and have fun.

  • I just finished making another custom map at Golf Course. It's 'King of the Hill' where 20 players are on each side of the clubhouse and have to run up each of their hills to capture the point at club house. Once they have the point, they have upper ground, so it is truly king of the hill. Do it properly, and it changes from a fast assault to a slower-paced sniper defense. Otherwise, it's a constant assault.

    Experience code: Z6ZFK

Since it is custom and has no XP anyway, it has bot fill to keep you entertained while waiting for people to populate. The biggest problem right now is just being able to host or join a hosted server with all the bot farming server overload going on.

No incentive to play custom maps for a grind game, don't seen many people playing until its full xp what a waist of a good idea

Yes, definitely the grind gets in the way of enjoying unique experiences. Maybe when people feel like they have grinded enough, they will start looking for more options. I have already noticed a small increase in activity in my custom maps.

Someone posted an interesting idea that I think is simple enough that EA might consider implementing it. EA could use a check in their server backend where every bot kill gives no XP. Simple enough. The bots keep the experience going, but provide no XP in order to prevent the farming that EA seems to hate so much.  It's so simple that it just might work. A compromise. Give us experience and unlocks for real players kills, but not bots. Afraid that we'll still game the system, well, give us 50% XP in custom maps. Give us something. Anything.

Here is a thread I made on the subject, where I hope people will link to and talk about their creations or favorite unique experiences:
