Portal always had a Harcore preset toggle from what I can remember - It's a few extra clicks, sure, but it was pretty easy to also get full progression too, you just had to disable bots

Yes, I understand what you're saying, but why can't hardcore simply be included in standard matchmaking, just like it is now with normal mode? It used to be like that in the past, and I think it's fair and reasonable for both types of players — those who want to play in normal mode and those who prefer hardcore — by simply choosing before entering standard matchmaking.
The point is: why can't hardcore just be added to standard matchmaking like it used to be, instead of having to look for custom servers in Portal, which don't always grant XP progression and make finding hardcore mode more complicated, since you have to click through multiple menus. On top of that, not all the standard matchmaking maps are always available, because the person who creates the server decides which maps to include.
Those who enjoy normal mode can enter standard matchmaking — those who want hardcore can't. That’s the real issue!

I totally agree with this. Do you know if the lights on the sniper rifles is off in hard-core? Its really unrealistic to be able to spot snipers with that stupid light. I think it could be a better mechanic in place to spot them. I know it's a game and they have to make it fair.

I agree, this exaggeration of the sniper whose reflection can be seen from miles away is unrealistic. It’s like he has the sun inside his scope.

I agree 100% that a few extra clicks should not be a problem. My only thought is they will have plenty of people who are either oblivious to the fact that this can occur or who feel like it's "too much work" (for lack of a better description) who will stop supporting the game. And as more and more those people stop supporting the game, the studio may see that as, "our fan base wants XYZ more than hardcore because the player base isn't there..." And starts drifting from the core values that makes BF what it is and starts changing it into a clone of other games, like COD.
This is just my thought on the matter, and I would very much like this franchise to not only survive but thrive because I have hours and hours of fond memories from playing this franchise over the past 20 years and would love hours and hours more, over the next 20 years!

But that didn't result in an Official set of Hardcore rules as the veteran games did. You could end up with 1000 in bullet velocity, faster movement speeds and rediculous bullet damage. I prefer a fixed set of rules so I do not have to learn the game again every time.

I tried it in portal but if you tick hardcore it just lessens hit points and still requires far more hits than used to. However, if you turn off hardcore you can change health to 10% and that works well, only problem is that the server is then not tagged as hardcore!
