If memory serves me correctly, the glints are always on in the official hardcore servers ever since BF3, which is when I think they were introduced. I don't specifically remember them in Bad Company 2 or any previous entries. I do remember that is was a welcomed feature though for obvious reasons. But that was only until more games from other companies joined the fray.
Now, after playing Squad, which is the closest thing, in my opinion, to give you the feelings of playing BF3 and BF4 hardcore mode, there really is not need for sniper glint. I think the BF devs should look at that game and utilize some of it's features for a true hardcore mode. I mean that game was based on a mod for battlefield 2, and has been widely popular. So obviously some of it's features have to be useful.
Wasnt that was called project reality back in the days before its called squad?? I love squad only thing i hate its they exagerate a bit to much the inability to aim when moving or being suppressed other features are perfect imo

I think project reality is still active, but from what I read, some of the mod devs ended up moving over to Offworld Industries to develop Squad, so it is it's "spiritual successor". I agree there are some features I wish were a bit different with Squad, but after BF4, I moved over to Squad because I enjoy more of the semi milsim/realism (BF3, BF4, Squad, which I fell I less milsim than say Arma) over the more arcade shooter like COD which I felt BF started to become. But the gameplay feature I enjoy the most is the faster kills. I feel like it slows the game play down, in a good way, and makes you have to think more tacticaly. Same with the lack of pinging enemies or a mini map, unless you had equipment to do so. And the great thing about BF vs Squad, is the maps aren't so large and there are enough vehicles that it doesn't become a "running" simulator, like those others can sometimes feel like.
BF6 is the perfect opportunity to start getting the franchise back on track. But without official hardcore servers, they may miss out on an entire segment of players!
