It seems the alternative is to not rely on a complete stranger, but to rely on friends/clanmates instead. Personally I think the challenges that are part of the regular progression tree certainly shouldn't be that difficult to complete as a solo player. So that particular challenge seems far too difficult.
It's fine if there are some optional challenges that are more difficult and require a high degree of teamwork though.
