Improve Variable-Zoom Scope Controls and Usability
Hello BF6 devs and community,
I’d like to suggest several improvements to the usability of variable-zoom optics (for example, 1–5× or 1–6× scopes). These changes would make them more practical—especially for recon/sniper playstyles.
Current issues and proposed improvements:
- Zoom level can only be changed while aiming down sights (ADS).
This forces snipers to ADS just to adjust magnification, which triggers scope glint and exposes their position.
Suggestion: Allow changing zoom without ADS, even while moving or hip-firing. - No HUD indication of current magnification.
Players cannot easily tell whether they are at 1×, 3×, or 5×.
Suggestion: Display the current zoom level on the HUD (for example “Zoom: 3.0×”), either briefly when changed or persistently while scoped. - Zoom resets after death, respawn, new round, or weapon switch.
Every respawn forces re-adjustment.
Suggestion: Make the zoom setting persist per-weapon or per-scope across deaths and matches. - Zoom cycling is inefficient — pressing V loops through all levels and then returns to minimum.
Suggestion: Support scroll-wheel adjustment while holding the zoom key (for example: hold V + scroll) so players can increase or decrease magnification directly and precisely instead of cycling through all values.
Why this matters:
Variable-zoom optics are useful in theory, but current limitations make them inconvenient. Improving control, feedback, and persistence would significantly enhance tactical use and player experience.
Thank you for reading and considering these suggestions.
