Improving Competition/Fun Across Game Types

Many matches suffer from an imbalance in effort between the two teams. In many cases, players are choosing to work toward completing challenges rather than choosing to attempt to win the match. This creates tension between teammates and reduces the overall fun and competitiveness in matches. I believe players are incentivized to do this for 2 reasons 1) completing challenges is fun and 2) completing challenges earns rewards. I propose that EA add an option for all game types that disables the completion of challenges but increases the amount of XP (weapon and player level)) earned by player actions (kills, captures, revives, etc.) to make up for the benefits lost by de-activating challenges. This will incentivize players to play to win, instead of playing to complete challenges that exist independent of helping their team to victory. This will create 2 ecosystems for players, one where people are playing to win the match, and one where people are playing to complete challenges or generally to goof around. This will in some ways provide the "ranked vs unranked" experience present in many games that most gamers are familiar with and enjoy. Ideally this can be toggled by players on the multiplayer menu so we don't have to navigate through 2 different versions of every mode in the game. Perhaps there's a branding in opportunity in what we call each mode to get people excited for the change. Please do this. Everyone wants to goof around and play specific strategies sometimes, and at other times be able to lock in, adapt to a situation, and try to win a match. Interested to hear what other players think!

  • Also, there should be a matchmaking option that allows you to be placed in either the Challenge/Play to Win modes if you don't care. This will help with matchmaking times.

  • Or give the players back full xp and progression in legitimate verified and unmodified portal servers. That way people can complete the challenges without detracting from their team in regular matches.

  • the whole issue is that this generation is always crying about "I wanna play with my friends".    back in the days most bf2 servers I went on were friendly fire on,  and had auto team balances.  noone complained.  it was all legit players,  and you just banned someone if they were just "too good"  noone needed proof of them cheating and noone cared.   If they were real,  they would prefer to play on servers with higher skilled players anyways,  and they were out there.  Thats how it works in real life too.   change server,  for court or park.   nobody likes to play noobs cause it makes you a worse player.  A competitive player likes to keep his talons sharp.

DICE tried to introduce a shuffle teams vote in BC2,  when they made a comeback on the PC.  and it enraged the community.   They got flamed.  servers got attacked,   and most admins stopped using the beta mod.    Because this generation no longer cares about fair play and competitive matches in a "pub".     they think being competitive is pwning noobs,   and that comp games only have to do with money,  skill level,  or organized tournaments.

And its because these sort of things are never gonna be up to EA my friend.  They can try to force whatever they want,  but the community of trolls and cheats will just undermine it by creating multiple anonymous accounts or sync dropping into matches.  For example,  they obviously are trying to shuffle teams after every match.   But its obvious that players are still padding stats by sabotaging a team they are on,  for the other side.  and thats been going on in bf since literally the beginning.   Its just now we are forced to play on the same servers as these rejects is the difference from my day.  And its a shame.

I agree that challenges cause a lot of players to farm instead of ptfo, but EA will never make any changes like that. The only way it will get better is if EA gets rid of daily and weekly challenges, and have people level the battlepass by just playing and getting xp. 80% of the matches I'm in, no one is ptfo'ing and everyone seems perfectly happy we're only holding 1 or 2 points and losing by 500 tickets halfway through the match. No one cares because they're sitting in spawn trying to get their 10 sniper rifle kills done for the daily, or off in the hills somewhere with an AA rocket trying to get 2,000 damage on air vehicles for the weekly.
