Matchmaking in ranked

Ranked matchmaking feels unfair after the latest update

I really enjoy REDSEC and I want Ranked to succeed, but lately the matchmaking has been extremely frustrating.

I am currently Gold, and almost every night (usually between 8 PM and 11 PM) I get matched with random teammates who are Bronze, Silver, or even Unranked, while the enemy team is often made up of Master players. Yesterday we even faced a Top 20 leaderboard player.

Today I played five Ranked matches in a row, and every single game my team had Bronze or Silver players while we were matched against Master squads. At that point, it feels like the outcome is decided before the match even starts.

What makes this even more confusing is that Ranked has strict restrictions preventing friends with different ranks from playing together, supposedly to keep matches fair. However, the matchmaking itself regularly creates teams with huge rank differences.

Please take another look at the Ranked matchmaking. I would rather wait a little longer for a match than be placed into games that are clearly unbalanced from the start.

I love the game, but the current matchmaking is making Ranked more frustrating than enjoyable.

Thank you for your reply and for taking the time to forward my feedback to the team. I really appreciate it.

I just wanted to add one more thought.

For me, the whole purpose of Ranked is to compete against players around my own skill level and gradually climb by improving. If I'm Gold, I expect to play mostly against Gold players, with the occasional Platinum or Silver player if the matchmaking needs to expand the search.

For example, if there are not enough Gold players, I think it would make sense to first include Silver and Platinum, and only expand further if necessary. But regularly matching Gold players against Master squads or even Top 20 leaderboard players defeats the purpose of a ranked mode.

I don't mind losing. I actually enjoy challenging matches. What is frustrating is feeling that the match is heavily unbalanced before it even starts.

A good ranked system should encourage players to improve step by step. Just like in sports leagues, teams compete against opponents at a similar level and move up as they become better. That progression is what makes Ranked enjoyable and rewarding.

I truly hope the team will take another look at the current matchmaking, because I believe it has a huge impact on player retention. If average players constantly face the highest-ranked players, many of them will simply stop playing Ranked altogether, which only makes matchmaking worse over time.

Thank you again for listening to the community.

Thank you for sharing this feedback in detail. I understand why this would feel unfair and frustrating.

I’ll pass this along to the team for reference, including your point that you would rather wait a little longer if it means getting more balanced matches.

I also know that players have been asking for more information about how the matchmaking system works, and I hope the team will be able to share more on this in the future.
