Not recieving double experience steam

I have been playing all evening with a friend of mine, I am playing the game through steam, he is playing through the EA launcher. According to the menu and his experience rewards there is double xp, however I am not recieving the bonus, is this an error or intended? because if it is intended, maybe you should remove the announcement about double xp from your menu system.....
