Well the problem is that open weapons just turns most players into rushers. There is no point in picking another weapon when you can pick the best gun in the game (well have to wait and see how they re-balance the guns so i can only hope) in turn this also makes players focus on their individual play rather then the team which is what BF is about. Example:
During the play test most support didn't bother to pick you up even if you were right under their feet. There were some exceptions but most of support players would literally step over you and just keep going even if you were behind cover
Open weapons do give players a better individual performance but unless the player chooses to stick to their role, they'll focus more on their individual self. he isn't locking all the weapons and his post isn't set on stone but its a good aproach. You would have options to chose from, and there is nothing wrong with a squad made up of same the class as it would make them more efficient in some areas but not in others. Hence you rely on your team or other squads to make up for your weak points
For a game that is supposed to be team based and has to rely on your squad members to ignore this flaw is rather troubling, cause they can do a hybrid for the base game and add the open weapons feature to battle Royale and lobbies since those are ment to have changeable setting
Assault is really good in close combat and under this scenario it would have access to DMR, I think this already makes it a solid class. Assault has a skill that negates ADS penalties, if you add the bolt action rifle to that it could technically replace snipers, quite sure glint is attached to recon so this could also break the balance between classes.

I do not think this is true, people will play like this regardless if that is their playstyle. If anything I would argue that a open weapon system does the opposite as it lets you pick class to fill a certain role instead of picking a class based on the weapon.

This is a weapon balancing issue, and that is just further proving my point. If a weapon is clearly better than the rest then everyone will choose the same class just for the weapon.. which is not healthy for the game / class system. Again my experience is the opposite. A closed weapon system will make players more focused on their individual play, as the classes no longer matters as much. For most players, choosing a weapon will always be a priority over choosing a class. So in a closed system choosing a class becomes less important.

I agree, I experienced the same. That has nothing to do with a locked VS open class system. More about learning the game and have the patience to help your teammates.

That Assault is a solid class does not change the fact that you are now forced to play a certain class if you want to play with a Sniper Rifle.. which in my opinion is bad for the game, and feels bad for most players. It needs to be balanced of course. A lot of players were using Sniper Rifles with the Assault class during the beta (most likely to pair a Sniper with a Carbine though). You are also missing out on a very nice synergy with the fatal headshots. So I would still say that Recon with a Sniper Rifle is way better. I am pretty sure glint comes with the gun and not the class.
