SBMM
So, they announced that Battlefield 6 will have SBMM. People will be matched based on ping, server location and skill factor based on gamemode you play. Atleast that is what they said, and nobody kn...
Ok so SBMM doesnt just act as this catch all nefarious evil thing dead set on ruining fun. Nor does any one game really manipulate the outcome. A lot of that comes from the odds API sites tend to share to players. In games the matches on paper are typically gonna be designed to be about 50% chance either way. Looser SBMM means faster matches but more chance at lopsided ones, typically seen in casual modes or larger scale modes (like Battlefield) whereas stricter ones where everyones more equal in skill are gonna usually be locked down to smaller ranked modes or in esports titles.
Matchmaking times honestly are likely not due to any one issue but more than likely that there just arent enough actual game instances running to accommodate the sheer volume of players so its more of a "wait your turn" instead of the game being dead, sucking, evil sbmm, or a tech issue.
Afaik TTK wasnt really touched its like all the same stuff just added more maps/modes this weekend.
The game DOES use dedicated servers you mean third party servers, and theres not much indication of those returning. Lot of folks end up just using matchmaking and often enough in browsers its gonna be weird fringe content that people may not want.
Now back to the SBMM... they push it because its literally been a thing since the dawn of matchmaking through Halo 2 IN 2004. Like LITERALLY been a thing for the entire time for over twenty years. The devs arent controlling you its just ensuring you dont have 100 pubstomps in a row either on the giving or receiving end because that unsurprisingly tends to suck for those on the receiving end and pushes players away killing the game. Give players a fair shake to win and they tend to stick around.
That's odd, since i'm playing shooters since the '90's and when we didn't had matchmaking just only dedicated servers, people tend to stay way longer or even keep coming back to populair servers. You also had different skills combined on one server, so it automatically balance out anyway, you don't need matchmaking for that. It was way more fun back in the day to be honest and I hear this from more older gamers.
I'm coming from Counter-strike when it was still a mod, America's Army 1 (later updated to 2), Medal of Honor Allied Assault, I even played Battlefield 1942 and yet, it was WAY more fun to play these games as games right now. You even had clan wars, you even saw less cheaters and hackers. Sure, back in the day, there were are alot less cheaters and hackers, but when one was active, they got kicked very quickly by the community, very fast. With devs, it takes weeks or sometimes months.
I don't care how long matchmaking is around, I just hate the whole system since they invented this **bleep**. And now you even have SBMM like in Call of Duty and even Delta Force that influence your matches. Enough videos to find, you can even look up Activisions patent, where it specific says that they infleunce the aiming. How higher your skill, how better aim you need. How lower your skill, how more the system helps you with the aim. They also influence ping. It's all in their SBMM patent. They also influence the damage, you can just easily look this up. You can also find those patents very easily.
Lot of folks end up just using matchmaking and often enough in browsers its gonna be weird fringe content that people may not want.
Yea when there is no server browser, otherwise nah dude. Weird fringe content ? what? It was always better on custom servers where they would ban certain broken things that werent banned/ removed/ nerfed on official servers for unknown reasons. Plus it gives you more flexibility and choice, so I really dont understand the point youre trying the make that is also kinda false.
