Should Laser designator be on Recon or Support

My experience so far playing as engie is me hoping a recon would laser designate targets but the vast majorety dont do that and i understand, stoping your sniping in order to laser something that you are going to have to laser again and again until it gets destroyed breaks the rhythm when playing as recon not to mention recon is not a class that shines in teamwork unless your playing CQC with recon, something the vast majorety dont do. So my idea was changing the gadgets in a Bad Company 2 style, meaning the laser designate calls in a mortar strike just like in BC2 and the mortar on support gets replaced with the laser designator hopefully removing the mortar spam currently in game and giving the recon a bit more team work gadget that he can use from a distance.

It would also be easier to balance since if the recon wants to use the mortar strike they must wait for its cooldown and even if you have more recons wanting to spam the gadget you could just place a limit to how many gadgets can be used at the same time like it was done in BFV when you want to call a barrage or even place a limit on how many recons can use the gadget in a lobby.

English is not my first language so apolegies for any gramatical errors, i would like to ear your opinions on the topic this was a  ramdom idea i had and decided to share.

Yea with each new BF game that comes out recon have slowly becoming a 1 trick pony kinda class wich would be fine if the gadgets actualy fitted the playstyle like in Bac company 2 or BFV but rigth now they dont, witch is why i think the perks you choose in the class should dictate the gadgets and complement the playstyle so for exemple, i go spec ops perk for recon i can only equip tracer dart gun, motion sensor, jammer, C4 and depending on the gadget it should resuply on a cooldown like the drone UAV you use for spoting.

I dont know just trowing ideas cuz rigth now recon feels kinda meh, what do you think?

You would think so but that does not happen, very often the majorety of people play with RPG not a lock on rocket and the few who do use the javelin are focusing tanks not waiting for targets to be painted by recons.

Very true when i use the laser designator it feels like a chore since i have to paint the same target 10 times until an engie finally pulls out a javeling or other lock on rockets and finally shoot the target, not to mention that it only lasts 4 to 5 seconds so i have to spam the thing over and over with no results.

True in the end it comes down to the player to decide if they want team work or just farming kills with no team play.

  • The designator was already just a way to aggro every vehicle on the map, and often lead to no real results.

Then they nerfed the bojangles out of it, but didn't remove the aggro red dot of aggro.  So, you stop sniping to tag something, get shot by everything on the map, and then the tag dies out because it lasts 7 seconds for no reason whatsoever.

EA has no idea what they're doing with recon.  The broke the DGMK so it's worthless now, the claymore is still broken, the designator is useless, the drone is still usable but without a support in the back lines you use it for about 3 seconds, it gets shot and you don't use it again for several minutes.  Decoys are... acceptable, but they require to to put yourself in danger to get good placement on them, and half the time they don't even deploy, they just lose a charge and never show up.  They also just... fall through the ground when placed on anything but terrain, even though you are allowed to place them on things other than terrain.  The jammer is ok?  It feels like it would be way more useful on assault who might actually be near the front like to jam things.

I'm certain they keep making the gadgets worse because recons always have an insane KDR.  Remove the sweet spot mechanic?  Nawp.  Bring back classic suppression so snipers can't just shoot through a bullet storm with perfect accuracy?  Nawp.  Remove the rangefinder that you can soft exploit so you never have to learn your gun?  Nawp.

The only thing they've done to nerf the class aside from ruining their gadgets is lowering bullet speed and increasing drop.  Considering console bullets will always find your head no matter how far they miss, I don't see this as a real solution.

  • I think when you  see things being painted folk would switch up to the javelins and bust up a few choppers and tanks  just my opinion

  • The problem with the laser designator  is imho, always the same.

The person doing the designating will more often than not feel that it is a thankless job without much feedback on having done something good for them and the team.

  • There's already a lot of Recons in every round, so I think that it should stay as a Recon gadget. If Recons are not using it, its the same as Medics that not revive..😅 Why to carry defibs if you don't revive...

We could debate about this for a long time, but can't find a solution for this as its a Player choice what to play with...🙂
