Which mode will dissappear next?
DICE, you're slowly removing every reason I log into Battlefield.
I've been a Battlefield player for years. I've stuck with this franchise through the highs and the lows because Battlefield always offered something no other shooter did: choice.
Some people love Conquest. Others only play Breakthrough. Some spend hundreds of hours flying jets. Others never touch a vehicle.
That diversity has always been Battlefield's biggest strength.
But over the last few weeks, DICE has been doing something that honestly leaves me wondering whether they even understand their own game anymore.
First, Strike Point disappeared.
That alone was a huge disappointment.
Strike Point wasn't just another playlist to me—it was Battlefield. Fast-paced infantry combat, constant objective play, little downtime and no endless running across huge empty spaces. It was the mode that made me boot up the game almost every evening.
I accepted it, hoping it would eventually return.
Then King of the Hill disappeared.
Now Rush.
Every few weeks another mode gets removed, and every time we get exactly the same explanation:
"We're doing this to improve matchmaking."
I'm sorry, but I simply don't buy it anymore.
Better matchmaking means nothing if players lose the modes they actually enjoy.
This philosophy seems completely backwards.
You're looking at matchmaking statistics.
We're looking at enjoyment.
Those aren't the same thing.
If someone mainly plays Strike Point and you remove Strike Point, you haven't successfully moved that player into another playlist.
You've just given them one less reason to launch the game.
That player isn't magically happier because Conquest now finds a server twenty seconds faster.
They've lost the experience they came for.
Battlefield doesn't need fewer playlists.
It needs more players.
This is what frustrates me the most.
Instead of asking why player numbers aren't high enough to sustain multiple playlists...
...the solution seems to be reducing the number of playlists until the statistics look healthier.
That's treating the symptom instead of the disease.
It's like closing half the lanes on a highway because traffic is lighter than expected.
Sure, every remaining lane becomes busier.
That doesn't mean you've solved the problem.
Every removal chips away at player trust.
The biggest issue isn't even that Strike Point is gone.
It's that now I have absolutely no confidence that any mode is safe.
Imagine finally finding the playlist you love.
Learning the maps.
Improving every night.
Meeting regular players.
Only for DICE to remove it a month later.
Why should anyone become invested in a mode if it can simply disappear?
Live service games are supposed to grow.
Battlefield currently feels like it's shrinking.
Battlefield has always been about freedom.
Want vehicles?
Play Conquest.
Want large tactical pushes?
Play Breakthrough.
Want intense infantry fights?
Strike Point.
Want objective-focused gameplay?
Rush.
Different players enjoy Battlefield for different reasons.
Trying to funnel everyone into fewer playlists completely ignores that reality.
You can't force players to enjoy modes they never wanted to play.
Strike Point deserved so much better.
What hurts the most is that Strike Point wasn't some experimental gimmick.
It had its own identity.
Its own community.
Its own rhythm.
For players like me, it wasn't an occasional distraction.
It was our main game mode.
When it disappeared, I didn't suddenly become a Conquest player.
I just started playing Battlefield less.
I can't imagine I'm the only one.
The numbers probably don't tell the whole story.
DICE sees queue sizes.
We see friends who stopped logging in.
DICE sees playlist distribution.
We see communities disappearing overnight.
DICE sees matchmaking efficiency.
We see reasons to keep playing disappearing one after another.
Those are two completely different perspectives.
There were so many better solutions.
Rotate the smaller modes weekly.
Bring them back every weekend.
Have featured playlists.
Merge playlists only during off-peak hours.
Use dynamic playlists depending on player count.
There are dozens of ways to improve matchmaking without removing content entirely.
Instead, DICE chose the one solution guaranteed to disappoint the people who actually enjoyed those modes.
I'm not angry because one playlist disappeared.
I'm angry because of the direction Battlefield is taking.
Every update seems focused on removing something.
One less mode.
One less option.
One less reason to log in.
That isn't how you build excitement for a live-service game.
That's how you slowly convince loyal players that the game is no longer made for them.
Strike Point was the reason I played Battlefield.
Now it's gone.
And instead of being excited for what's coming next, I'm left wondering...
Which mode will disappear next?
