Suggestions Regarding"Veteran/Milsim" Gameplay.
Recently, Battlefield 6 has been going towards the right direction. They are actively listening to the community, reworking nostalgic maps, and providing transparency. However, issues such as balance, scale and vibe still remain.
Starting with the Scale and Vibe, Battlefield 6 is starting to lean towards bigger, more impactful maps which is great. From what I've seen with community feedback, scale takes a high priority in most people's opinion on the game. Whether it's because they like knowing that there are plenty of other battles going on simultaneously around them, or just the freedom of being able to explore and advance the maps by taking different routes is debatable. But overall, scale gives Battlefield that vibe, that feeling of all-out warfare that can only be felt when you don't feel like a main character. This stays true to Battlefield because of it's gritty nature, which would obviously benefit from larger scale.
As for balance, this ties into both scale and vibe as well, because of the fact that being able to survive a direct RPG hit and still run around long enough to wipe out an enemy squad is pretty unrealistic. But things like this are already known, and I assume being worked on. So let's move to another topic of balance, Milsim/Veteran vs Regular/Casual players. I will give an overview of what I've seen, and my own suggestion on how to cater to both sides.
From what I've seen, the community is either heavily split, or is given too much freedom with little penalty or encouragement on how to play. Battlefield 6 GIVES players that choice to play how they want, and that's great, but it overlaps a little too much when each player in a server wants different things from the game, but can't have that when everyone else is playing completely differently.
Now as for my suggestion, I think having Two playlist would be great, IF it's done right and gives enough resources to the players so that neither feels left out. There can be a Normal playlist, and essentially a Hardcore playlist. The regular playlist is the game as it is now, while the Hardcore essentially gives players a reason to play cautiously, slower and more "realistically". Changes like: Hour Long Matches, Friendly Fire, Limited Hud, Magazine System, No Auto Repair, ect. The basics, however it can be taken a step further, although this would split the community much more due to the fact that nobody really wants "playlist specific features", (ie. Specials, "Behemoths", ect.)
So how do you make Hardcore different enough to be worth it? You don't really need new, you just need to give players that base/template so that they can play how they want with players who want the same.
Why not just play portal? Well, not all portal servers are active 24/7, nor are they all worth playing because of the XP. Having an official playlist with an organized menu will give new players big, official options to see how they want to experience the game, and that is because players will trust the developers more with their experience than they would a community member, especially for newer players.
There can always be new features and mechanics to make the game a "Milsim", but would it work? Does it fit the Style/Franchise? And would the community enjoy having game mode or Playlist Specific Additions? Probably not, but it doesn't prevent the creative freedom that the developers have access to, from making real, "Orgin-true" additions, look at the Drag-and-Revive mechanic for example. Gritty, Massive, All-out Warfare. That's Battlefield right?
