Mate, I am a battlefield vet from way back in the day!, and I can assure you that this change has been absolutely appalling. Simply put, DICE promised full xp for using official rules and modes in Portal and thats what they should do! all the bot lobbys should rightfully be shut down if they have utilised higher than normal health for the players vs bots, or even like in some modes where the bots dont have a gun at all. That is not in the spirit of what most real gamers are trying to do.
if you have BACKFILL on with no password protection, and no modification to anything such as health, movement speeds, loadouts (aside from open or closed weapons) then there should be NO XP penalty.
Where did they promise FULL XP? They promised full progression, which you have, you can unlock everything vs bots. Getting Full XP vs bots only is totally unfair if you then play multiplayer later.

Why is it unfair to get full xp/progression?
Unfair is people who have more time to grind having better gear than casual/new gamers.
Why would anyone care how people get their gear, it's supposed to be a skill vs skill game I thought.- Petrichor20354 months agoRising Traveler
It's like saying "i dont have as much time as you in world of warcraft, so you should make the game easier and faster for me so i can catch up in levels."

World of Warcraft is not an FPS game. There's no comparison. Most of the game is PvE.

So is the fact I can only play about 10 hours a week compared to people that play all day everyday. It makes it fair to have it in the game. Read the post

They literally advertised it I don't know what you want from me

It was definitely advertised before release. They said Portal would feature full progression, and while some extreme experiences would be limited, their threshold for limiting XP would be much more lenient than in 2042. This would imply that servers that give bots 1 HP while tripling player HP would probably be limited, but servers that are running official experiences with bot backfill would not be.
I was on the fence about this game, and that assurance was one of the things that encouraged me to buy it. Bot backfill is nice because it gives me at least something to do if my server isn't getting up, and I don't want to play 5v5 on Rush or something. 5v5 with the rest of the spots being taken by bots is playable and sometimes fun though. They straight up lied to us, and the thread is appropriately named as a betrayal. If they don't revert this it is false advertising.

Well considering a certain amount of progression is tied to your level (upto level 50) which is only gained by getting XP then they didnt need to specifically say the word XP! It is implied when they have a "progression system" that relies at least in part on XP.

When it is being exploited by modifying player health, removing the bots guns and just farming the heck out of them I completely agree with you.
What I dont agree with you is those people like myself being punished who run an official server that only increases the match time, and modifies the map rotation where bot backfill is utilised so we can commence a game instead of waiting for an hour or so to have enough people join to start a match. - DANGERGOOSE14 months agoSeasoned Ace
They promised "more lenient conditions for full progression than 2042." This would imply normal game modes with bot backfill = full XP/full progression, but clear farming servers like bots with 1 HP and only have knives while humans have triple HP would probably be limited.
It's not unfair at all. Everyone would have access to full XP on bot backfill servers.
