yes I do agree with that...the grind they made is excessive, but this is often the case with many other MP games as well and is a big reason why you learn that any game which relies upon a weapon unlock system where there is such an asymmetry in the strength of the weapons is always a bad idea to make it, or to buy it for that matter, as a "competitive" type game. Therefore BF is bad as a "competitive" game to begin with.
IMO, a good competitive game keeps all players on the same level playing field as far as weapons and their associated strength/power/effectiveness...and then uses an unlock meta purely for cosmetics which offer no competitive advantage. Otherwise, playing a game like BF or COD or any other game that uses your playtime against you or your competitors is actually hostile and unfair and is a waste of your time and energy worrying about who wins what, or loses.
This a big reason why I stopped playing PvP a very long time ago, and now only play pure PvE/Coop games. I really happen to enjoy an unlock meta....but only against bots, not real people...and never against friends. It's just not a level playing field.
PvP, in a game like this, is a trap....emotionally and physically...and the developers not only know it, but also rely upon that fact to keep you playing as much as possible and as soon as possible.
Yes, unlocks in PvE games is part of the adventure and growth.
In PvP it should not be acceptable to have more than cosmetic accolades.
