This still needs to be fixed.
I had hopes that they would've fixed it in BF 6's launch version as it is a recurring mistake in the franchise since squad revive/ interact revive was introduced.
BF V fixed the issue by doing what OP already described. BF 2042 also made the same mistake on launch and then fixed it and additionally introduced making hold reload to the weapon pickup (though I think it is an issue with controller as revive, reload, and weapon pickup are on the same button?).
Either solution could work for BF 6.
