This is just your opinion, which you're entitled to have, but I believe you'll be in the minority. FPS games live and die by how good their gunplay is, and latency is a big factor in this. While you might be okay with 40ms latency on average or minimum (I'm just paraphrasing you, I don't know how much latency is common in cloud gaming), I would not be okay with that, and I suspect neither would most hardcore FPS gamers. If it were a magic bullet, it would already be commonplace. It isn't common, so it's obviously not a magic bullet.
"The typical latency on a cloud-based gaming server generally falls within the range of 20 to 50 milliseconds (ms)" - AI-generated answer.
I think I'd rather deal with a 50ms latency vs a cheater. At least with a 50ms latency, I have a decent chance of winning the encounter.

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. If the promises (and execution) of cloud gaming meet your needs and expectations, then by all means, go for it! I'm sure it would be cheaper over the long haul, since you won't need a killer system to get the most out of the game. As for me, I prefer to build a badass system every few years and squeeze every last drop of performance out that I can. I may one day try cloud gaming, but I'll be shocked if it can meet my expectations for performance in First Person Shooters, my genre of choice. To each, his own, right?✌️
