I've been playing games for over 30 years and know a few things about how to deal with cheats. Cheating only started being rampant when dedicated servers/private game hosting was taken away. Game publishers and or devs wanted for some reason to have control over everything. All the while they didn't understand or just didn't care that when you take control away from game mods like we used to have, you have no one at the game level to deal with cheaters. We had some of the most successful and fun gaming servers in the United States. Why.... because when a hacker showed up, he got hardware banned and we never seen him again, unless he changed hardware on his computer. And yes, it was PC only servers. Oh, and **bleep** where dealt with in the same way. We didn't allow disrespect to anyone.
We never had a hacker even be able to finish a game in our servers much less wreak havoc over and over every game. Not so much today. Whereas they want to control everything, we had choices back then. Some of you have never played in anything as smooth as those servers. And believe me, the camaraderie was off they charts. Our motto was you came for the games , but you stayed for the people. That's what I wish they would do to handle cheaters. They could stop cheaters in one day by allowing us to buy and host our own servers. The money would dry up and disappear for hacker farms. And the fun would really return. And Dice would sell a heck of a lot more games this way.
