Weapon Component Customization

This is going to outline a concept for a more modular approach to weapon customization in Battlefield 6 that affords the player more agency over the appearance of their weapon without completely eliminating skins as a source of income for Battlefield Studios. I will refer to this as Weapon Component Customization, or WCC for short.

Weapon Component Customization is a system that is imagined as a solution to the problem of having several functionally identical yet visually distinct attachments and, to a lesser degree, weapons. The WCC system is focused around "component packages" which can be considered either separate weapons or attachments, but that share identical performance or mechanics with pre-existing weapons or attachments. The WCC system can be considered an extended version of the Medal of Honor: Warfighter weapon customization.

Attachment example; the canted red dot sight in-game is (for the sake of example) a Trijicon RMR but I would like to have a different sight in its place, Aimpoint ACRO P-2. I can then complete a challenge or make a microtransaction to acquire a "component package" that contains the canted Aimpoint ACRO P-2 for the weapon I want it on. The attachment retains the same functionality and mechanics, the appearance is all that changes.

Weapon example; the M4A1 exists in game but I don't like the appearance of it due to reason X, I can then complete a challenge or make a microtransaction to acquire a "component package" that changes the M4A1 into (for example) a M4A1 Block II (different handguard, stock, iron sights, pistol grip). The weapon retains the same functionality and mechanics, the appearance is all that changes.

Package example; a "Royal" package for the L85A3 that contains a reskinned ACOG that looks like the SpecterOS 4x LDS and VarioRay LLM Mk3 laser module.

Obviously there's going to be an overrepresentation of attachment specific packages as attachments are more plentiful than firearms. This is a system that could also tie in to soldier cosmetic items for a faction (I do not want identical skins on both factions).

Please note that I specifically said "complete a challenge or make a microtransaction". I.e. you can either earn the component package free of charge through completing challenges, or buy the package immediately.
