Truly custom maps give no XP anyway, so turn the bots on. If you are making a custom map, you have no restrictions. If you aren't making a custom map, I don't know what the hypothetical complaint is about.
I made a custom TDM Hardcore map in Empire State and Saunts Quarter. No problem adding bots. I made a custom TDM Hardcore map in Golf Course and Defense Nexus. No problem adding bots. I made a custom King of the Hill map in Golf Course. No problem adding bots.

Just can't join it or populate it cause everyone is exploiting and farming XP with every available server. That's the real problem EA needs to fix, not custom servers. When 7000 people are playing a solo 1v47 bot instance, 7000 servers wasted on one for each person, and that is 336,000 global hosted player spots wasted for just 7000 players. Very inefficient. Couldn't they at least do a 1v31 bot server or something? 33% reduction. Do they really need to waste 48 spots per server?

There are no minimum players required for "Custom" Portal matches, and bot backfill will do it's job until players join. The problem with custom portal matches, IMO, is that what's the point of making a custom map, or a map remake when you can't play it in any standard BF mode such as Conquest, Rush or Breakthrough...all the custom stuff is just spawning enemy in 1 spot and they have no waypoints or triggers assigned so there's really no game mode there at all...it's just a bad Deathmatch type of scenario.
Dice needs to create some default game mode templates in Portal's "Custom" tab for the 3 game modes we all want to play...and then use the editor to assign a custom made user map. Without any default templates for Conquest and the others, the custom mode is pretty crapola, IMO.
Another valid point, IMO again...if DICE would put those Conquest/Rush/Breakthrough templates in there we could also then host locally and wouldn't have the Gamer Server Exceeded issues that are stopping Portal players from playing right now. Portal needs ALOT of work and is not ready for prime time as it stands currently...I could see it being my goto way to play after they fix it up and users have alot more time to learn it and make some really good map remakes, but we're talking at least 6 months to a year from now before it really gets fleshed out. For now, DICE needs to step in and provide those game mode templates at the very least. - Ty_Ger072 months agoSeasoned Veteran
You can create AI spawners and give them a purpose. I made a couple of Deathmatch servers where the AI just roams and has little purpose, and you kind of give them purpose through map design and placement; but you can actually customise them to give them purpose in other ways. I might redo my deathmatch maps to give bots more purpose, but not now since no one plays custom games anyway.
In my king of the hill map at club house, you can see there that I put in more effort and they have definite purpose. It just takes a lot of effort. Wasted effort for a community who doesn't even play. Z6ZFK
Even more of a problem is that no one can join or host custom servers. 7000 people still wasting 336,000 global server slots by solo farming bots for full xp. Even once you are successfully able to host your server, even if it is persistent, as soon as the players drop to 0, the server becomes unjoinable due to "unknown error" cause all the global slots are gone. You have to try over and over again, and who besides the creator is going to do that?
