They probably made the change because of the upcoming season pass.
That said, I’m kind of torn about it; portal definitely needed some adjustments since most people were only using bots in verified modes to farm XP and complete challenges.
What really bugs me, though, is that EA hasn’t updated the challenges to match these changes. The folks who used the old method got easy progress, while now everyone else has to grind it out the hard way.
At the moment, portal is being completely abused. There’s even a way to AFK in a verified match for about 4 minutes and walk away with nearly 10k XP; the server browser is flooded with these lobbies.
