Yes I agree with your opinion. I believe this is why they introduced the armored transports which if you haven't tried them they are pretty darn tough and strong.

Since I am mainly an Engineer and I love to drive tanks, I have a particular problem with RPGs being so strong. Basically, three rockets and your tank is destroyed. Seems a bit much to me.
