ame crashes on launch / Black screen loop with AMD GPU after the latest update

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing a persistent crash on launch (black screen loop that returns to EA App after a few seconds) with Battlefield 6 since the latest update. I have thoroughly tried all standard and advanced troubleshooting steps, but nothing works.

Here is what I have tried so far:

- Clean reinstalled the EA App and cleared all download caches (%programdata%\EA Desktop).

- Formatted the game settings file and tried launching with minimum graphics settings via PROFSAVE_profile.

- Reinstalled and updated the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables (both x64 and x86).

- Disabled Windows Real-time Protection and added exclusions for both the game directory and EA Anti-Cheat folders (C:\Program Files\EA\AC).

- Ran both EA App and bf6.exe as an administrator.

- Ran a complete disk check (chkdsk /scan) and found no file system errors.

My System Specs:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT

- OS: Windows 11 64-bit

Crash Dump Analysis:

I inspected the .mdmp file located in my CrashDumps directory. The crash occurs exactly during the rendering path initialization. The dump file points directly to an ACCESS_VIOLATION code involving the following modules:

- amdxc64.dll

- Engine.Render.Core2.PlatformPcDx12.retail.dll

- amd_fidelityfx_framegeneration_dx12.dll

This confirms that the Frostbite engine is consistently crashing while attempting to reference GPU/VRAM memory addresses during AMD Frame Generation or DX12 render initialization after the latest patch.

Since this is a clear game engine conflict with modern AMD drivers/features, we urgently need an official hotfix or patch from the development team. Is there any temporary workaround for AMD users, or is a hotfix already in development?

Thanks for your support.

  • I'm not sure if the AMD has fixed the problem yet but I think the latest drivers update had a problem so could be just amd drivers

The latest version hadn’t been released yet when I started experiencing the problem. EA released the update last week, and my game crashed. At first, I thought it was caused by the AMD drivers, so I updated them. I updated my chipsets, BIOS, Visual C++, and all my drivers; I reset my graphics settings config file, ran a file repair, and fixed the Windows Defender exceptions. I reconfigured Windows permissions. I cleared EA’s cache. I ran a file repair, but the problem still persists. I’ve tried every possible method over the past 10 days. When I read the error logs in the “CrashDumps” folder, it’s clear that the crash is entirely caused by faulty graphics engine code in the latest Battlefield 6 update.

    DETAILS:

Error Code: The report directly indicates an ACCESS_VIOLATION error. Conflicting Modules: As the game fully launches, the Graphics Engine (Engine.Render.Core2.PlatformPcDx12.retail.dll), AMD’s graphics card driver (amdxc64.dll), and AMD’s Frame Generation library (amd_fidelityfx_framegeneration_dx12.dll) are conflicting with each other.

    As a result:

The latest patch EA released for the game attempts to read data from an invalid or non-existent address in the graphics card’s memory (VRAM) during startup. Because of this incorrect command, the game hits a code error and crashes within the first few seconds. I’ve tried various workarounds locally, but there’s no way to fix this broken code from the outside; AMAZING EA absolutely must release a patch (hotfix) to fix this rendering error—otherwise, they’ll lose more than just one player.

  • I have 7900xt and I had many problems with latest AMD drivers, 26.6.4 and 26.6.2. Amd made a big release improving FSR and driver is not polished enough (that's a regular release but IMO it's really a beta).
So I switched back to a very stable driver 26.3.1 which worked many months very well for me in bf6. To my surprise it's not stable as well: after a June 30 patch I experience random stutters (like once in 2 minutes) and it's very annoying. Seems like BF6-DICE also has some issues now they need to fix as well.
