Battlefield 6 – Latency and Matchmaking Routing Concerns (Western Canada)

I wanted to share some feedback regarding latency and matchmaking in Battlefield 6 from a player in Western Canada (Saskatchewan).

I’ve spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting on my end to make sure this isn’t a local issue. My setup is fully optimized. I’m running an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, an RTX 4080 Super, and 64GB of DDR5 memory at 6400 MT/s with EXPO enabled. The system is using NVMe storage and a wired Ethernet connection with a 1 Gbps internet plan that is stable and consistent.

Outside of the game, my connection performs very well. I consistently see around 30–35 ms in ping tests with no packet loss or instability. In-game performance is also smooth at around 165 FPS, so there are no hardware or frame pacing issues on my end.

When the game first launched, my in-game latency was typically in the 25–40 ms range, which felt correct for my location and connection.

However, more recently I’m regularly being placed into matches where my latency sits around 55–65 ms.

Based on the testing I’ve done, it seems like I’m being routed to servers that are not the closest available to my location. With my baseline latency, I would expect to land closer to the 35–45 ms range, but that doesn’t seem to happen consistently anymore.

The difference is noticeable in gameplay. In fast-paced gunfights, that extra 20–30 ms makes it feel like I’m always just slightly behind.

It would be really helpful if matchmaking could prioritize lower-latency servers over simply filling matches quickly. Even having visibility into server region or expected latency before joining would make a big difference.

At this point, everything on my end is working as expected. It just feels like the routing and server selection have changed since launch and are now the limiting factors.

I’m curious if others in Western Canada or similar regions are seeing the same pattern, and if there are any plans to improve how matchmaking handles latency.
