I’m experiencing what seems to be a CPU bottleneck, with the processor running at 100% utilization. I tried to fix it by updating the GPU drivers, motherboard chipset drivers, and even the BIOS, thinking it was a software issue. I also created a user.cfg file specifying the number of physical cores and threads (in my case, 6 and 12). What happened was a drop in CPU utilization, but the overall performance remained the same — if not worse.
My theory is that the graphics engine isn’t properly utilizing the cores, especially when there are only six, leading to saturation and poor core management until some reach 100%. In the next few days, I’ll run more tests to confirm or disprove this theory by directly monitoring per-core utilization.
In any case, I’m deeply disappointed by the performance drops I’m experiencing. I bought the game expecting it to be a milestone in optimization (especially considering how well the beta ran at high settings), only to end up with a game that’s certainly good, but which my system — that should handle it effortlessly on paper — struggles to run even on low settings.
If anyone has the same problem and managed to fix it, please let me know.
