DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error, both BF6 and 2142

This has been a problem that's plagued me with both 2142 and BF6.  I have no problem with any other non-EA game.

It's totally random.  Sometimes it happens as BF6 is loading (I've uninstalled 2142), sometimes after a lengthy gameplay session.  Sometimes in the menu.  Totally random, no sense to it.

With the error message telling me to update drivers, I've done that like this:

Download most recent version of Game Ready Drivers (tried it with WHQL drivers, made no difference)
Rebooted into safe mode.
Installed and ran DDU to remove all old drivers.
Rebooted into safe mode.  (no networking support either time)
Installed the new drivers.
Rebooted back into normal mode.

I've also done it that, after the DDU run, I'll boot into normal mode and i nstall the drivers.

I've got ample space on my computer for the pagefile.
My processor is an Intel I7
32gb of RAM

I've tried other fixes from both these forums and elsewhere; nothing has worked.

Any ideas?

  • try to disable every VRR setting, in windows and Nvidia

or maybe give the hotfix driver 581.94 a try

Yeah, I've done both of those, updated to the new drivers, updated bios, reinstalled WIndows finally, reinstalled the game, have about 70% free on my SSD for the pagefile, performed a pagan ceremony, sacrificed a goat,  and then curled up into the fetal position and cried.

... and it's gotten worse with the Winter update.  Not just the menu issue that is/was happening, but every time I get this error now. I finally got about four - five minutes of playtime before it crashed.

    ...and **bleep** silence from EA.
