Extremely Slow Download Speeds on Battlefield 6 Patch (Akamai CDN Issue?)

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing very slow download speeds while updating Battlefield 6 today (March 31, 2026). The download appears to be coming through Akamai CDN, and speeds are fluctuating between 0.5 Mbps and 4.0 Mbps, which is significantly lower than expected.

For comparison, my connection normally achieves much higher speeds on other CDNs, so this seems isolated to EA’s delivery network.

What I’ve tried so far:

- Restarted EA App and PC
- Cleared/refresh DNS cache
- Restarted router
- Checked for background bandwidth usage (none significant)
- Tested connection speed (normal outside EA downloads)

Despite this, the issue persists.

Questions:

Is anyone else experiencing similar slow speeds with this update?
Could this be related to Akamai routing or regional server congestion?
Are there any workarounds (changing download region, forcing different CDN, etc.)?
Would appreciate any insights or acknowledgment from EA if this is a known issue.

Thanks!

Follow-up:

I would like to highlight that the issue persists. Shortly before clearing/refreshing the DNS cache from the Launcher, items are listed in the queue. However, the download manager currently displays only a single item—Battlefield Season 2—and no other items or options are visible in the queue.

This behavior appears abnormal and may be related to the download slowness reported earlier. I would appreciate your prompt investigation and resolution of this issue.

Follow-up 2

The gameplay does not progress beyond the initial stage. The following message appears (the original is in Japanese, so the wording may differ slightly in English).

"Manage Files" — 0/6

"Select the content you want to install on your device."

Multiplayer — Update required
Battlefield REDSEC — Update required
Campaign — Update required
Multiplayer High-Resolution Textures — Update required
REDSEC High-Resolution Textures — Update required
Campaign High-Resolution Textures — Update required

I am unable to check any of the boxes, so none of the six content items that were not installed via the Akamai servers can be updated from this screen.

This seems to be an unusual issue.

Follow-up 3

On the Battlefield 6 launcher app, I selected “Repair” to troubleshoot the issue and confirmed that installation of previously unupdated content has started. The repair queue shows nine items of content that were not installed.

The download is coming from Akamai Technologies (the server is 104.18.8.118, the same node where I previously observed throttling). This time, the speed is around 20–30 Mbps, which is acceptable. However, after a while, it drops to around 2–5 Mbps (as of 22:30 JST).

I hope the download completes successfully so I can play the game.

Follow-up 4

The installation of the remaining nine content packages via Akamai Technologies has been completed, and I have confirmed that Battlefield 6 launches.

Download speed comparison of EA’s CDN providers under a Wi-Fi connection environment in Japan with a best-effort maximum speed of 4.2 Gbps:

AT&T (Downloaded once in March; achieved speeds exceeding 30 Mbps.)
Amazon CloudFront, Google Cloud CDN (Generally around 8–20 Mbps)
Akamai Technologies (Consistently slower speeds, resulting in longer download times)
