I had to buy battlefield 6 twice!

I pre-ordered BF6: phantom edition. I’ve had it for months. I was in a match the other day and as soon as I got back to the main title screen it was telling me I couldn’t play multiplayer unless I bought bf6. Is this a common occurrence? Or am I just that unlucky?
