Laser designator deploys itself when trying to paint target

Laser designator barely usable for me.
Everytime I try to paint targets using the laser designator in handheld mode, it unscopes itself and tries to deploy the tripod.

My theory is the trigger to deploy isn't properly removed when scoped in.
Since left click is both paint and deploy, holding left click to paint often tries to deploy the tripod which renders handheld mode barely usable.

This has been my only rage inducing, gameplay breaking bug.
