Paid for full game but now need game pass subscription
Anybody else buy the game and not allowed to play multiplayer unless they get a game pass subscription now?

While free to play titles don't need anything to play online (other than internet access, of course), Xbox has always needed a subscription to play online. They have an FAQ about Game Pass here, which has the following:
Do I need an XBOX Game Pass subscription to play multiplayer games?
To play online multiplayer on XBOX consoles, you need an XBOX Game Pass subscription. However, free-to-play titles like Fortnite or Roblox don’t require a subscription to play online.
On Windows 10 and 11 PCs, no XBOX Game Pass or additional subscription is required for online multiplayer—just an internet connection.
