Persistent stutter and crash - fix required :(
Subject: Persistent DX12 crashing in Battlefield 6 (PC) — ACCESS_VIOLATION in bf6.exe + DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, unfixable after exhaustive troubleshooting
PLATFORM: PC (Steam) | GAME VERSION: 1.0.439.36273
SYSTEM: Intel i9-13900KF | RTX 4080 (driver 596.49) | 64GB DDR5 @ 4000 (XMP off) |
MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI, BIOS A.J0 (latest microcode) | Windows 11 (26200) |
PSU 1000W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0
PROBLEM: Frequent, random crashes — in matches, in menus, and once while idle in a lobby.
CRASH EVIDENCE (dumps available):
- Most crashes: exception 0xC0000005 (ACCESS_VIOLATION) in bf6.exe, reading/executing invalid pointers at a different code offset each time. One dump shows the instruction pointer overwritten with the ASCII text "Buffer" — a clear software memory-corruption signature.
- Also: 0x887A0006 (DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG) via CreatePlacedResource in the DX12 upload heap, with 150+ nvlddmkm Event 153 GPU errors logged and NO WHEA hardware errors.
- One whole-system BSOD (0xA), preceded by nvlddmkm Event 153 errors, no WHEA.
This matches the widespread r/Battlefield6 "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG" reports of DirectX-crash reports in the Battlefield Discord.
TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED (all done — please don't re-suggest):
- Motherboard BIOS updated (Intel stability microcode) + Intel Default power profile.
- XMP disabled (RAM at JEDEC 4000). System hardware-stable: zero WHEA, zero reboots since.
- Full clean reinstall (game + config + shader caches + EA anti-cheat removed) + verified files.
- Clean GPU driver via DDU; tested 596.49 and newer branches.
- Overlays + Steam Game Recording off; no third-party injectors present.
- Upscaling, DLSS/Frame Generation, Future Frame Rendering, Reflex all OFF.
- HAGS off; NVIDIA reference clocks (Debug Mode); PCIe Link State Power Management off.
- Windows TDR delay increased (TdrDelay/TdrDdiDelay = 10) — no effect.
- GPU power limit 90% + core underclock — no effect.
REQUEST: Escalate to the Battlefield dev team as a confirmed application-side D3D12 crash. The fault is in bf6.exe, reproduces even at idle with all render features off, on hardware that is stable in every other game and passes stress tests. I can provide paired .mdmp files, Event 153 XML, DxDiag, and full timestamps.
