Set Borderless mode solved DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error for me
Hi all, I was having heavy trouble running BF6 RedSec on my desktop:
Ryzen 5 5600 X, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Sapphire RX 5600 XT 6GB
During game in a random fashion I had the error "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED", and the game crashed, exiting abnormally. I've sent the bug report about 10 times to AMD, using Adrenaline bug detection panel. They did never answer. It was very annoying: sometimes it let me finish two games and then crashed at beginning of third game, other times crashed during the first game... just unpredictable.
Given that BF6 was the only game affected by the issue, I had a very hard time trying to solve it.
I tried almost everything:
- Clean GPU Driver Install: Used DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode to wipe old drivers, then installed the latest drivers: DID NOT SOLVE
- Update Windows: IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN UP TO DATE
- Check Windows health: via DISM, sfc and chkdsk commands: DID NOT SOLVE, even if errors were detected and repaired (it's always a good idea to fire this checks once in a while!)
- Verified Game Files: NO ERROR DETECTED
- Disable Overlays: Turn off Discord, Steam, or NVIDIA overlays: DID NOT SOLVE
- Close Monitoring Tools: Stop MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, or other overclocking software: NEVER HAD THIS CRAP
- Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS): Turn this OFF in Windows Graphics Settings (Restart PC after): DID NOT SOLVE
- Limit FPS: Cap FPS in-game or in NVIDIA Control Panel to 60/120/144: DID NOT SOLVE
- Graphics Settings: Lower settings like Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) and Global Illumination (GI): I WAS ALREADY PLAYING AT THE VERY LOWEST SETTINGS
- Keyboard Input: Switch to English (US) keyboard in Windows settings to avoid conflicts with Shift key.: DID NOT SOLVE
- Clear Shader Cache: DID NOT SOLVE
- Update Chipset Drivers: DID NOT SOLVE
- BIOS/UEFI: Updated, but DID NOT SOLVE
- TDR Delay: In Registry Editor (regedit), create TdrDelay (DWORD 32-bit) in ...\GraphicsDrivers\ and set value to 10 (seconds) to give GPU more time: TRIED ALMOST ANY VALUE HERE, but DID NOT SOLVE
So, there was just one thing remaining: Fullscreen/Borderless mode in BF6 settings!
I've set the Borderless mode inside BF6 settings, and now I'm not having a crash since ages.
Enjoy this workaround! 😎
