Why do I get kicked for trying to use the chat function

My teammate stole my attack helicopter that I was repairing then immediately got killed and as I was trying to use the (completely unintuitive) chat system to tell them to never do that again I get kicked due to inactivity. I was typing the whole time. It then wouldn’t even let me join the game again even though my friends were still in the match. Absolutely ridiculous from a AAA game. Completely ruined the experience.
