Xbox - unable to open EA connect/friends list

Hey guys, I'm an Xbox user and the game says to hold RT to open the EA connect/friends list. However no matter what I do, I cant open it, in the lobby or in game.. I have my brother as a friend from when the BETA was out and he can see my account but just shows me offline.

I have tried restarting the game, my Xbox, the Internet router, re-installed the entire game and even gone onto the EA website to unlink and re-link my Xbox profile to the EA account but nothing has worked. 

I can't find anything on the Internet that has helped :/ does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
