Ability to play on Surface Pro

You cannot run games via remote desktop or via a virtual environment. This is just the way the OS and game is designed, there is no fix as it is not possible

I am getting the same error when trying to launch BF3 on my Surface Pro.  I am launching the game directly from the Windows 8 desktop.

Why would you bother replying when you clearly don't know what you're talking about?

EA has posted that they are working on fixing. This is not a remote desktop or virtual envirnment issue, it's an incorrect interpretation of the Surface Pro by the Origin client.

According to this post from the Origin Team it is currently under investigation. Unfortunately, I don't have any new information to share at this moment.

In order to play Origin games on your Surface Pro you will need to install a special version of the Origin client. You can download the installer here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4885867/Origin-HL-94.zip

This is only for Surface Pro users. If you are running a normal Windows PC, please do not install this build.

If you have already downloaded games (like BF3), you should be able to just click the download button and Origin will complete the install process. 

Keep in mind that all current games may need more modest graphics settings to run smoothly and some older EA games may still have compatibility issues.

Has this update been merged into any of the recent updates to the Origin client? Or is this client still required to play games on the Surface Pro?

That's a good question 🙂

I have reached out to the Origin team for clarification if the special version is still required or if the "fix" was merged into the main Origin client.

Heard nothing?

The latest Origin version is capable of running on a Surface Pro with Windows 8. 

The Preview version of Windows 8.1, however, will throw the same error message that you have seen before, the Origin team is looking into it.
